POSITION OVERVIEW

The Attorney I is responsible for identifying and analyzing legal issues, drafting key documents, and handling day-to-day legal matters as assigned by Legal Counsel. Attorney I will utilize a thorough understanding of the Companys business to provide practical legal solutions in furtherance of corporate goals.

WHAT YOULL DO

  • Research and analyze a variety of legal issues.
  • Provide analysis and counsel on Company policy and regulatory issues.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of documents associated with commercial transactions, including vendor and supplier agreements.
  • Draft internal Company documents and agreements.
  • Assist the Company in legal proceedings including administrative proceedings and discovery requests.
  • Provide advice and counsel in substantive areas common to a global employer, including, but not limited to: regulatory compliance, immigration, labor and employment, trade secret, and litigation matters.
  • Anticipate and guard against legal risks facing the Company.
  • Develop and recommend Company and operating policy, procedural improvements and position on legal issues as assigned.
  • Write, review and edit reports, correspondence, and other documents.
  • Monitor developments and changes in laws and regulations impacting the organization.
  • Perform other duties or special projects as assigned.

HOW YOULL DO IT

  • Sound business judgment and strategic thinking ability with flexibility to work on a variety of projects simultaneously and under deadline pressures, independently or as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication, business writing and organizational skills.
  • Maintain high level of honesty, integrity and confidentiality with respect to Company matters.
  • Attention to detail - Ensures information is complete and accurate; follows up with others to ensure that agreements and commitments have been fulfilled.
  • Personal accountability - Keeps promises and honors commitments, accepts responsibility for one's actions and assumes responsibility when dealing with problems, crises, and issues.

WHAT TO BRING

  • J.D. from an American Bar Association (ABA) accredited law school and good standing member of state bar (Michigan preferred).
  • Minimum of one (1) to three (3) years of experience practicing law at a law firm or in-house position, preferably with prior experience handling commercial contracts, labor & employment, or employee benefits.
  • Proficiency in legal research.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
