Responsibilities

Role Purpose:

The Sr. Counsel, Legal Affairs will draft and negotiate television entertainment agreements and be responsible for handling production-related legal issues for television programming for NBC Entertainment, which includes our studios, Universal Television and Universal Television Alternative Studios, and our broadcast network, NBC.  Representative types of agreements include development and rights agreements, on-camera talent agreements, producer and director agreements, overall and first look agreements, license and co-production agreements, digital rights agreements, production services agreements, commercial production agreements and similar documents. The Sr. Counsel, Legal Affairs will also advise clients on intellectual property, defamation, privacy, contract, clearance, rights-related and regulatory issues, as well as other issues arising out of programming.

Responsibilities:

  • Draft, review, negotiate and interpret contracts and other documentation.
  • Provide timely and thoughtful legal advice on potential risks and issues, and propose practical, responsive solutions.
  • Vet content, scripts, activity outlines, and series/challenge rules.
  • Partner with NBCUniversal business executives, as well as colleagues in the Law Department, to discuss and implement best practices and formulate new processes in connection with business needs.
  • Create and update forms.
  • Work with the Legal Affairs team and colleagues in the Law Department on major projects with long-term business implications
  • Other matters at the direction of the SVPs and/or VPs, Legal Affairs.

Qualifications/Requirements

Basic Qualifications:

•Member of California bar, or willingness and qualification to be Registered In-House Counsel.
•A minimum of six years of entertainment, intellectual property, corporate transactions, litigation, privacy, defamation and/or other relevant subject matter expertise; law firm experience highly desired
