Job Summary
The general counsel’s main role is to guarantee the company is working in compliance with the law in every way. He/she must be able to recognize the onset of problems in the preliminary stages and take legal action to protect the company’s profile and its employee’s reputation from risk of exposure to the public, thus ruining their image and affecting the business. The General Counsel is the Company’s primary internal legal official and as such will oversee all ongoing activities (including those undertaken by outside advisors) related to the development, implementation, maintenance of, and adherence to the organization’s compliance program and policies and procedures covering compliance and federal and state laws governing, among other things, data security and receivables management.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Provides legal opinion, legal interpretation, and recommendations to the Operating Board and district administration for the purpose of ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
Review, edit, and create documents for the purpose of conveying information to both internal and external entities in a legally compliant manner.
Maintains and catalogues legal documents and contracts for the purpose of ensuring accurate reference materials.
Provides staff development for the purpose of educating others on their legal responsibilities
Prepares a wide variety of written materials for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written references, conveying information, and/or supporting presentations concerning policy and procedure changes.
Coordinates data security activities with CIO and ISO;
Coordinates operational issues with Operating Board;
Analysis of the current environment, the legal requirements to which the Company is subject, and identification of specific risk areas;
Review and assessment of existing policies and procedures that address risk areas;
Examining, create and approve agreements, contracts, NDA, and RFP;
Maintains current knowledge of applicable federal and state laws and accreditation standards, and monitors advancements in information compliance technologies to ensure organizational adaptation and compliance.
Conducting legal research and reviewing company's litigation strategy pertaining to legal actions;
Liaising with outside counsel;
Works with organization administration, legal counsel, and other related parties to represent the organization’s information interests with external parties (state or local government bodies) who undertake to adopt or amend legislation, regulation, or standard.

Security
Information and Physical Security is the responsibility of every employee. In your position you are required to safe guard the computer systems by following proper username and password management which includes selecting challenging passwords and committing them to memory – they should not be written down or stored where others can freely have access. This also includes securing your desk and workstation when you are not there – this includes locking your session, and putting sensitive paperwork away when not physically at your desk. You are not to share your username or password with anyone. The physical security of our offices of are equal importance, never shadow or let someone shadow your entry into a Coast Professional, Inc. facility – if this occurs quickly report this action immediately. You are required to follow all Information Technology policies and procedures in regards to the management of your system accounts and equipment. If you witness any security violation you should immediately report it to management.
Qualifications
Education
Juris Doctor Degree from accredited national law school.
Passed the state’s bar exam
Credit & Collections Compliance Officer (3CO) credential or similar confirming competence in compliance.
Experience
One (1) year experience working with the FTC or CFPB
Demonstrated organization, facilitation, communication, and presentation skills.
Demonstrates personal traits of a high level of integrity, team orientation, professionalism, and trustworthiness. Places a high value on ethical standards and treating others with dignity and respect.
Knowledge
Immense veracity, extensive understanding on wide range of legal issues and business experience.
Knowledge of statutes, rules and regulations pertaining to businesses
Skills
Proficient understanding of business sensitivities and confidentiality.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Abilities
Successfully pass pre-employment (post offer) background check
Working Conditions
Work may require frequent weekend and evening work. This position has travel requirements and may require overnight travel.
