About the Role

The Associate General Counsel will own all legal work related to product counseling, marketing compliance, and state and federal regulatory engagement, including all state licensing applications, renewals, and examinations. In particular, the Associate General Counsel will integrate closely with the Product team to shepard new features to launch, while enhancing our compliance infrastructure. Reporting to the President & General Counsel, the Associate General Counsel will be a senior leader within the company and will reinforce our culture of compliance.

Responsibilities

Advise the product team regarding legal requirements related to existing and proposed products and features;

Propose creative ideas as to how we can work within the law to provide amazing user experiences;

Engage with our state and federal regulators pro-actively and in response to annual licensing examinations;

Draft and manage a variety of internal and external agreements, including our Privacy Policy, Terms & Conditions, and other agreements;

Collaborate with the marketing team to ensure that all customer-facing material presents our product and company fairly and honestly; and

Serve as a primary point-person to non-governmental entities, such as the Better Business Bureau and other reputation-focused organizations.

Qualifications

5+ years of combined, relevant experience in law firms, governmental agencies, and/or in-house legal departments ;

Experience with launching products in a highly regulated space;

Demonstrated business judgment, intellectual creativity, and rigorous problem-solving skills;

Extremely strong written and oral communication skills with a persistent eye toward problem-solving; and

California Bar admission in good standing (or Registered In-House Counsel status with California State Bar)
