Role Summary:
This position is on the Business & Legal Affairs team responsible for providing business and legal support for the Universal Brand Development Division.  This position reports to the VP of Business & Legal Affairs. 

Job Duties:

  • Independently draft, review, negotiate and interpret a high volume of license agreements associated with the licensing, distribution, promotion, and marketing of intellectual property content for consumer products and other franchise activities.
  • Identify and analyze legal issues relating to consumer products and other franchise activities for both film and television (e.g., rights, trademark, clearance and other intellectual property issues).
  • Liaise directly with licensees and partner with business executives and members of the law department in other business units to discuss legal issues and business needs.
  • Provide timely and thoughtful legal advice on potential risks and issues, and propose practical, responsive solutions.
  • Other matters as needed.

Qualifications/Requirements

Basic Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience at a major law firm or comparable studio or transactional experience, with specific entertainment and/or intellectual property expertise.
  • Active member of the California bar or other U.S. state bar. 
  • JD or LLM degree from an accredited law school.

  • Superior analytic, communication, drafting and negotiation skills and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Outstanding organizational skills and ability to handle and track a high volume workload.
  • Sound business judgment, and flexibility/adaptability to manage multiple, wide-ranging matters, conflicting deadlines, and new areas of expertise as business needs change.
  • Ability to explain complex legal concepts to business and creative executives, build consensus across business units, think creatively, and collaborate with other executives and team members at all levels to address business needs. 
  • Collaborative, team-oriented approach.
  • Comfortable making legal decisions and advising on business risks.
  • Proactively identify, prioritize and resolve legal issues quickly and effectively.
  • Familiarity and experience with SAG, WGA, and DGA agreements.
