Position Overview

The General Counsel's role is to aid in the protection of business interests, ensure compliance with applicable law and limit risk exposure, all while supporting the ability to execute on business operations in an effective and not overly burdened manner. The GC is also expected to provide efficient turnaround on tasks conducive to an in-house, on demand role. As this is a full-time, on site role, we are unable to consider remote applicants.

Responsibilities

This role has multiple responsibilities that touch every corner of the company including, but not limited to, the following:

  • Draft, review, edit and approve contracts of all types affecting all areas of the business. Maintain executed copies of all agreements and track renewal and expiration dates. This is a document- and contract-heavy position and high competence in this transactional work is critical.
  • Draft/review/update privacy policies and terms & conditions for all of the companys sites, affiliates and platforms.
  • Protect company trademarks and copyrights, including sending and responding to DMCA copyright infringement notices, sending cease & desist letters, filing WIPO actions when necessary and serving as the primary point of contact for brand protection companies.
  • Manage and create standard corporate documents when needed.
  • Receive and process all legal claims, pre-litigation or not, and provide information and advice on those claims and how they should be handled to the President
  • Manage all company insurance policies, applications, and renewals, file Annual Statements of Information with the Secretary of State and conduct an annual I9 audit.
  • Provide advice and counsel to employees regarding issues with customers, broadcasters, studios, recruiters and other employees.
  • Assist with HR issues when appropriate.

Qualifications & Experience

Qualifications must be commensurate with the role and responsibilities; however some key requirements include:

  • Active member in good standing of the California Bar.
  • Minimum 5 years of legal practice experience required, in a law firm or in-house.
  • Minimum 3-5 years on transactional work required, with specific experience drafting, reviewing and editing various types of contracts.
  • Along with required transactional experience, some experience in at least two of the following areas is strongly preferred: technology law, data privacy law, international law, civil litigation, intellectual property, regulatory compliance, employment law.
  • Strong, clear and concise business communication writing skills, including correct grammar and spelling.
  • A positive attitude, a sense of humor, and the willingness to check your ego at the door.

Compensation

Compensation includes an attractive 401K. Health insurance (medical, dental, and vision) is also provided. Full details will be made available during an interview.
