Job Purpose: The Extreme Music Business and Legal Affairs department handles all contractual and transactional aspects of Sony Music Publishings Production Music division. An intern in our department will assist the Business and Legal Affairs team to negotiate deal terms and issue synchronization license, commissioning, publishing, sampling, interpolation and general clearance agreements with composers and artists as well as with film, TV and new media clients, all while placing a strong emphasis on rights, administration and asset management.
What Youll Do:
Review and analyze publishing, synchronization, sampling, interpolation, confidentiality and sub-publishing agreements;
Advise team regarding the status of accounts in queue to be licensed along with relevant requested revisions;
Execute special projects as requested by management;
Draft form agreements (including accompanying exhibits) to ensure complete chain of title documentation;
Maintain a project database within corporate file repositories for the registration of musical works with collective management organizations; and
Investigate and prepare memoranda for potential copyright infringement matters under counsel's guidance
Who You Are:
In process of obtaining a JD from ABA accredited law school;
Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills required;
High attention to detail;
Must have taken a copyright law class;
Proven entertainment industry experience not required but preferred;
Sound cross-functional collaboration skills;
Hungry to learn and grow;
You embrace, support and inspire innovation through a creative and collaborative approach; and
Able to adapt quickly to a changing environment with minimal disruption;

The anticipated annual base salary/hourly rate for this position is $17 per hour. This does not include any other compensation components or other benefits that an individual may be eligible for. The actual base salary offered depends on a variety of factors, which may include as applicable, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.
