$200K/yr - $300K/yr + Bonus

General Counsel, Family Office (New York, NY): Our client is seeking to add a legal officer to join its dynamic team to support the finance, investment and general functions of the family office. He/she will head up legal initiatives for a diverse multi-billion-dollar portfolio, private foundations, multiple real estate holdings, including projects under development, one off operating projects and other areas managed by the family office. This position offers a unique opportunity to be part of a collaborative team with an entrepreneurial culture overseeing a very significant asset base and a broad set of activities.

Person will have exposure to all areas including real estate, private investments and employment matters

Opportunity to work closely with the family

WFH policy: 4 days in the office and 1 day from home

Responsibilities:

Take the lead on reviewing and negotiating documents for new investments in private equity funds, real estate funds, as well as direct real estate acquisitions, hedge funds, and public equity and fixed income, leveraging outside counsel as needed.

Manage the legal aspects of the principal's personal and recreational assets.

Draft and negotiate contracts with external business partners, vendors and contractors for a variety of services.

Assist with the management of the portfolio of entities/operations controlled by the family office

Review leases, bids, engagement letters and proposals from outside parties for a variety of transactions and engagements.

Work with the Controller to manage global insurance program to ensure risk mitigation is in place

Work closely with management on legal issues surrounding employment.

Support the Head of the Family Office in trust and estate matters for the principals.

Liaise with management and outside counsel on Private Foundation matters.

Engage and manage outside counsel on a wide range of matters.

Run the legal and compliance workflow of entire organization, provide timely reporting to the Head of the Family Office on status of outstanding legal issues.

Proactively manage broad array of legal projects and seek to solve issues within a best practices framework.

Act as trusted partner to the Chief Investment Officer in negotiations and interactions with external managers and counterparties, be proactive in anticipating team's needs.

Assist investment operations with KYC/AML and other compliance/regulatory matters.

Conduct legal research and provide legal advice to management with focus on risk mitigation across the organization.

Qualifications:

J.D. from accredited law school.

Experience working with private equity and/or hedge fund agreements a plus.

Minimum seven years of experience practicing law within a law firm or as inhouse counsel at a financial institution, investment management firm, or similar organization.

Strong writing and communication skills, with the ability to clearly and quickly communicate ideas.

Tenacious attention to detail, strong work ethic, team alignment and commitment to excellence at all times.

Positive attitude and orientation of client service.

Hands on approach effectively working in a lean environment.

Ability to work well with an array of personalities and counterparties.

High degree of integrity and ability to use judgment in handling complex and sensitive financial and personal information both internally and externally
