Job Purpose

The Sr. Attorney, Regulatory Affairs provides advice to internal departments on general and complex legal issues with a focus on regulatory changes within securities laws. The Sr. Attorney is responsible for developing and implementing regulatory change items, coordinating legal and compliance efforts as requested, and supporting the Associate General Counsel, Regulatory Affairs.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Conducts general and complex legal research and advise on a variety of topics, including but not limited to federal securities laws, state insurance, and the financial industry regulatory landscape.
  • Monitors applicable state and federal regulations that affect the Company and its products and various business units.
  • Distills complex regulatory requirements into clear communications and guidance to various business units on the impact of new laws to Jacksons business.
  • Facilitates the implementation of regulatory changes by providing affected stakeholders with legal interpretations and guidance on implementation strategies. Provides ongoing support to assist with their project management.
  • Creates, updates, and reviews policies and procedures to ensure that the Company is operating in compliance with regulations and that regulatory reporting requirements are met.
  • Researches and compiles information on regulatory trends to provide to Jackson business units and senior leaders with insights on legislative and regulatory priorities that may impact the business units.
  • Participates in industry trade groups that address developments related to registered financial products and insurance laws generally.
  • Oversees outside counsel as required.

  • Performs other duties and/or projects as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • In-depth knowledge of securities and insurance laws and regulations that affect Jacksons business and products, including regulations issued by the Securities and Exchange Commission, Department of Labor, and Financial Industry Regulatory Authority.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills with the ability to articulate important legal concerns/principles in a succinct and compelling manner to a diverse set of business units including senior leaders.
  • Ability to work independently and make decisions with limited supervision.
  • Clear understanding of how relevant laws impact Jacksons products, their administration, marketing, and pricing.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with superiors and colleagues, as well as internal and external contacts.
  • Ability to manage a demanding workload in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong project management skills.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor from ABA accredited law school required.

  • Member in good standing of a State Bar Association required.

  • 5+ years of related legal experience required.

  • Knowledge and demonstrable experience analyzing and applying securities laws (Securities Act of 1933, Securities Exchange Act of 1934, Investment Company Act of 1940, and/or Investment Advisers Act of 1940) required.

  • Knowledge of insurance law and industry preferred.

  • Proficiency with RegEd or other project management software preferred.
