Overview
This Associate General Counsel role provides legal advice and counsel regarding relationships and transactions between Novant Heath and its various subsidiaries and affiliates, employed physicians, independent physicians, independent physician groups, and other providers of health care services. This role works closely with Novant Health leaders supporting contract negotiations and preparing and reviewing contracts for health care services. The ideal candidate has a blend of regulatory and transactional experience with areas of focus including Stark, Anti-Kickback Statue (AKS), and the False Claims Act, and other healthcare regulations. This role reports and takes direction from the Vice President and Senior Assistant General Counsel over physician contracting.

Qualifications
- Education: Undergraduate degree from a recognized college or university, required. Juris Doctorate Degree from an accredited law school, required.
- Experience: 5 years experience in the Practice of Law, required.
- Licensure/Certification: Admission to the bar of at least one state or the District of Columbia, required.

Additional Skills/Requirements (required)
- Significant experience in contracting for health care services with employed physicians, independent physicians, independent physician groups, and other providers of health care services.
- Experience in developing, reviewing, and revising corporate policies, practices, and procedures to achieve positive impact on the organization.
- Experience in developing and managing systems to facilitate contract initiation, renewal, and revision to support ongoing needs of internal stakeholders.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced work environment with a high degree of responsiveness.
- Ability to handle unusual, demanding, and unrelated tasks while delivering results.
- Sound judgment with strong analytical, critical thinking, and creative problem-solving skills.

Additional Skills/Requirements (preferred)
Healthcare operational experience
- Experience with Stark, Anti-Kickback Statue (AKS), and the False Claims Act, and other healthcare regulations.
Responsibilities
- Review, evaluate and render legal determinations within the existing regulatory environment concerning existing and proposed contractual arrangements, programs, or projects.
- Effectively manage risk and compliance issues associated with arrangements with employed physicians, independent physicians, independent physician groups, and other providers of health care services.
- Research and interpret federal and state laws, regulations, interpretive guidelines, and case law related to corporate and health care issues.
- Review and prepares agreements and contracts.
- Assist in the development of new policies, procedures, and forms for the organization.
- Comply with and support department policies, procedures, and protocols.
- Maintain professional competency, according to department policies, procedures, and protocols.
