Attorney-Adviser (General)

This position is located in the Department of Defense, Office of Inspector General (DoD OIG), Office of General Counsel (OGC). OGC provides independent and objective legal counsel to the Inspector General and OIG components. Serves as an Associate General Counsel on the Audit and Evaluations team, supporting OIG components that conduct oversight of DoD programs and operations, acquisitions, overseas contingency operations, intelligence, and financial management matters. There is no substitution of education for experience at this level. Basic Requirements:

• To meet the basic requirements, you must possess a J.D., LL.B., or LL.M degree from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association.
• Applicants must be an active member, in good standing, of the bar of the highest court of a state, U.S. Commonwealth, U.S. Territory, or the District of Columbia, and be permitted to engage in the practice of law.
• Have at least three (3) years' experience providing legal advice and litigating employment law and discrimination matters.

In addition to the basic requirements noted above, resume must document the specialized experience listed below:

Specialized Experience GS-14 Level: You must have at least 52 weeks at the GS-13 level or equivalent level. Specialized experience is defined as possessing knowledge of and demonstrated legal experience in administrative, procurement, and fiscal law, and policies, regulations, and standards relating to audits and evaluations of government programs and operations.

Specialized Experience GS-15 level: You must have at least 52 weeks at the GS-14 level or equivalent level. Specialized experience is defined as possessing knowledge of and demonstrated legal experience in administrative, procurement, and fiscal law, and policies, regulations, and standards relating to audits and evaluations of government programs and operations. You must also have comprehensive knowledge sufficient to defend legal and policy positions dealing with DoD and other agency leaders, and with Congressional officials.

In addition to the basic qualifications, candidates must have at least five (5) years of specialized legal experience as an attorney in the fields of federal criminal, civil, or administrative law, which demonstrates that candidates can successfully perform the duties of a GS-0905-14/15 Attorney.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
