The County Counsels Office generally supports remote teleworking and a teleworking schedule with a mix of in-office and remote work may be available in this position.
The Office of County Counsel is a full-service law office, tasked with handling the County's employment law needs, including proactive participation in all phases of government decision making and a very active and successful trial litigation program.
There is an immediate vacancy in the Office of County Counsel for an Employment Law Advisory attorney to provide advice and counseling to County Departments and to represent the County in Civil Service hearings. The ideal candidate is an analytical thinker and able to accurately articulate the critical issues in resolving client issues. Additionally, the candidate will have excellent legal research and writing skills, and the ability to work in a supportive and professional team environment with other attorneys and support staff.

HIRING PROCESS AND TIMELINE
- Job Offer and Background Process begins: Shortly after the interviews. Note: Current County employees may be excluded from additional background screening.
- Pre-employment Medical Screening: Approximately 3 days following successful background investigation results.
- Anticipated Start Date: Start date will be based upon successful completion of medical screening or other mutually agreed upon date.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Qualified applicants must possess at least three (3) years of professional post-bar civil legal experience as an attorney and be a member in good standing with the California State Bar. Please provide your CA Bar number or attach a copy of your California Bar Card to your application.
Experience serving as an attorney providing employment law advice and counseling to employers in a public or private sector law office is highly desirable.

ALSO REQUIRED
A valid California Class C driver's license, which must be maintained throughout employment in this class, is required at time of appointment, or the ability to arrange necessary and timely transportation for field travel. Employees in this class may be required to use their own vehicle.
Must have a reputation for honesty and trustworthiness. Misdemeanor and/or felony convictions may be disqualifying depending on type, number, severity, and recency. Prior to appointment, candidates will be subject to a background investigation.
As part of the County of San Diegos pre-employment process, prospective candidates will undergo a background check (including fingerprinting) and a pre-employment medical screening prior to beginning County employment. Additional types of background investigations may be conducted based on the job-related activities of the position.
EVALUATION
Qualified applicants will be placed on a six (6) month employment list based on scores received during the evaluation of information contained in their employment application and supplemental application questionnaire.
