OVERVIEW:
This position is ideal for a junior to mid-level business-minded attorney (3-5+ years of experience) looking to develop their career and join a growing and dynamic in-house legal team. This role is focused on commercial contract review, drafting and negotiation, and will also involve various types of legal work as needed. Operates as a "generalist" and therefore works with various business units and partners (such as technology, finance, procurement, store operations, supply chain, and facilities) to provide business-minded, practical, and solution-oriented support.
Role Responsibilities:
Contract Drafting and Negotiation:
- Build upon prior transactional knowledge and skill related to commercial agreements (e.g. NDAs, SOWs, vendor agreements, SaaS/technology agreements), with goal of building skills to draft and negotiate complex commercial agreements.
- Expected to directly negotiate with third parties.
Legal Department Collaboration:
- Receive and review legal work from stakeholders and members of the legal department.
- Expected to work with and learn from legal team. Works with, oversees and assists legal analysts with respect to legal issues and drafting.
- Participates and assists in projects, as requested.
Advice and Counsel:
- Support various business stakeholders to research and review issues.
- Participates in disputes management related to commercial contracts, as requested.
Skills and Areas of Focus:
- Knowledge and interest in technology.
- Knowledge of basic accounting/finance. Considers financial impact when making decisions.
- Interest in retail.
- Identifies opportunities for outside counsel support related to complex commercial contracts.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Advanced Degree
JD Degree
3-5 years of experience
Experience practicing law, preferably in a law firm or corporate legal department.
