Job Description

Job Summary

Ensures accountable decisions are taken at the right level in the organization, and individuals making decisions are suitably informed about the level of legal risk.

Job Responsibilities

Reviews and evaluates title searches and insurance risk factors and must be able to justify and communicate underwriting requirements to agents, title examiners, buyers, sellers, lenders, counsel, and other real estate professionals on real estate transactions.

Responsible for evaluating risk and exposures to determine acceptability of business.

Determines premiums, terms and conditions based established rules, rates, and guidelines.

Analyzes data relevant to underwriting risk, including financial conditions of relevant parties, past claim experience among various factors, and use of improvements

Provides leadership and direction through committee membership

Applies broad industry knowledge and business acumen to drive financial performance

Directs the resolution of highly complex or unusual business problems applying advanced critical thinking

Persuades and negotiates with senior leaders across the business

Regularly communicates Company underwriting guidelines and directives to direct reports utilizing multiple forms of written and in person communication

Mentors other Underwriters

Active and visible as subject matter expert in real estate law and title insurance.

Leads team directly or through subordinate managers and; contributes to the development of functional/ operational long-term strategy and develops annual business plans to ensure alignment

Education

Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school. Active state bar license.

Experience

Minimum of 10 years of experience in legal role

Pay Range & Benefits

$160,000.00 - $270,000.00 Annually

The base salary range provided is consistent with similar roles at the Company. The base salary range is not an absolute, but a guide, and actual offers will be based on the individual candidates knowledge, skills, education, experience, location, market conditions, and other compensation components. Depending upon all of the preceding considerations, the base salary may be lower or higher than the stated range.
