Senior Counsel NAM (North America Region)
Job Description Summary
The NAM Senior Counsel will work as part of a broader international legal team and will have a regional remit covering NAM, Canada and Central America for Solar & Storage Solutions (S&SS) business line.

Essential Responsibilities
- Supporting the S&SS regional leadership, commercial organization, sourcing, contract management and project management teams for growth opportunities and initiatives in NAM, Canada and Central America with:
- Tendering phase, from advising our teams on business strategies/deal structures, to drafting, negotiating and approving contracts, with customers (both private and government-owned), suppliers, subcontractors and partners, giving advice on a wide variety of legal and regulatory issues under local law and active participation in deal reviews, maintaining independence as counsel while supporting the business lines in meeting their commercial, operational and strategic objectives and assessing and mitigating risks;
- Execution phase, supporting the execution of high-value complex projects in NAM spanning from engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC)/Turnkey to Design & Engineering, long-term service agreements (LTSA), operation & maintenance (O&M), for brownfield and greenfield projects notably mega-projects, including renegotiations and amendments and variation orders to existing contracts in collaboration with our contract management, project management and sourcing teams, managing claims, assisting with contract interpretation, flagging risks as they appear or grow, with a view to mitigating risk of expensive litigation.
- As a member of the business and segment global legal team, supporting to tendering and execution phase of international projects outside the region, if specifically requested.
- In conjunction with Electrification Systems Segment Chief Compliance Officer and GE Vernova global/local technical regulation Lead Counsel, and export control functions, supporting the implementation and maintenance of a strong compliance culture in the region, including overseeing audits to assess compliance with processes and applicable regulation.
- Working with the Vernova company secretary organization on matters of NAM S&SS legal entities corporate housekeeping
- Providing training to the NAM employees on contract terms, risks, claim management, NAM specific regulatory compliance.
- Under minimal supervision, plans, conducts and supervises complex legal assignments.
Required Qualifications
- Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school
- Minimum of 8 years of legal experience working on commercial contracts (including US government contracts) and claim management, of which as a min 2 in private practice

- Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills to connect easily and effectively across S&SS and Segment global organization.
- Strong oral communication and presentation skills, including Power Point and Excel proficiency.

- Clear thinking: Simplifying strategy into specific actions with clear accountability, making decisions in an expeditious manner; communicating priorities clearly and concisely.
- Passionate about continuous improvement, education, and development and willing to embrace new challenges without being afraid to stretch beyond the comfort zone. The role offers a significant amount of responsibility and autonomy.
- Experience working with different governing laws and legal systems.
- Experience with contractual matters relating to UK and/or Australia legal system and governing law is a plus.
- Ability to work in a different language on top of English is a plus.
- Ideal candidate will be located in or near Schenectady NY, Pittsburg PA, Boston MA, Houston TX, Rochester NY, Oakbrook Terrace, ILL. Hybrid (from GEV office and remotely) job arrangement is preferred.
