The Impact Youll Make in this Role
As a Director, Assistant General Counsel - Litigation you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people around the world. As a member of 3Ms world-class Litigation team, you will manage litigation of several types, including mass tort, class action, MDL, product liability, commercial disputes and intellectual property. Here, you will make an impact by:
- Managing day-to-day aspects of complex litigation matters including engaging outside counsel, developing litigation strategies, developing and managing to a budget and fixed fee arrangement, participating in mediations and settlement conferences, and obtaining input from relevant stakeholders.
- Communicating with C-suite executives on material litigation matters.
- Proactively advising 3M businesses and Legal Affairs business lawyers regarding litigation and risk management.
- Collaborating and maintaining relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, including senior executives, Finance, Investor Relations, the insurance department, and various other business groups and functions.
- Partnering with Government Affairs and other groups on policy issues and advocacy.
- Contributing to the efficiency and effectiveness of the Litigation team.
Your Skills and Expertise
To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:
- Juris Doctor degree and admitted to practice in any state in the U.S.
- Ten (10) years of complex litigation practice with demonstrated expertise handling products liability, mass tort and MDL matters, at a law firm, corporate legal department, in a private, public, government or military environment
Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:
- Experience serving as in-house litigation counsel for significant product liability and complex commercial matters.
- Trial and appellate court experience in state and federal courts.
- Experience with monthly budgets.
- Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to collaborate transparently, efficiently, and effectively at all levels within a team environment.
- Highly effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Honesty and unwavering integrity.
- Long-term, strategic, and practical thinker.
- Demonstrated capability to work with agility.
- Self-starter with the ability to triage and manage time-sensitive matters simultaneously.
- Sense of humor, curiosity, and drive for continuous improvement.
Work location:
- Work Your Way Eligible (Employee choice to work remote, on site, or hybrid)
Travel: May include up to 15% domestic travel.

Applicable to US Applicants Only:The expected compensation range for this position is $259,007 - $316,564, which includes base pay plus variable incentive pay, if eligible. This range represents a good faith estimate for this position.
