WHAT DOES A GREAT SENIOR STAFF COUNSEL DO?

You provide legal support including contract preparation and negotiation for sales executives and client account managers in Fiserv's Card Services Business Unit. Working in a corporate setting you reach mutually agreeable terms for client, vendor, and channel partner agreements, operating with a high degree of autonomy.

In Card Services we encompass the divisions’ full portfolio of technology solutions including debit card, credit card, and ATM processing, some of Fiserv’s most innovative and successful product lines. Acting as legal liaison you provide counsel to our contracts professionals, sales and account executives, and product teams, implementation teams, and technology leaders on legal matters. You develop and maintain all forms of contracts and legal documentation, providing sound direction to contracts specialist on effective document review, issue-spotting, and problem-solving. In this position you may also be responsible for managing other Fiserv Associates.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • You will work directly with business unit leaders preparing and working out technology-related and commercial agreements and

  • You will advise business partners on legal, contractual and risk matters impacting their areas of responsibility.

  • You will provide consultation and legal advice with respect to strategic initiatives, technology projects, customer contracts, intellectual property, dispute resolution, regulatory matters, corporate policies and procedures, and administration.

  • You will effectively interact with corporate specialists regarding finance, audit, tax, publicity/press, intellectual property (including patent applications), litigation, regulatory, privacy and technology matters that affect the divisions.

  • You will maintain knowledge of industry standard methodologies and applicable legislation affecting the operations of the divisions.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS FOR CONSIDERATION:

  • Graduated with a JD from an accredited law school

  • Obtained licensed to practice, or ability to become licensed, in appropriate jurisdiction

  • Membership in good standing with State Bar, and with no outstanding disciplinary actions.

  • Five (5) or more years relevant experience preferred

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Have a background in financial services industry or technology, business insight with a drive to learn, understanding and contributing to the strategic direction of the business.

  • Have strong knowledge of laws and regulations applicable to corporations in general, specifically technology services and software licensing companies.

  • Have solid interpersonal skills, including being able to pick up on nuances of client interaction and communications, effectively and consistently contributing in a team setting

  • Exceptional writing, presentation and bargaining skills including the ability to draft reach an agreement with clients and vendors through contracts based on forms and accepted Fiserv fallback positions.

  • Can manage multiple tasks in a dynamic environment, be deeply organized, have an eye for detail and strong project management skills.

  • Ability to identify risks and provide effective counsel and solutions to partners as well as provide sound solutions to our clients.

  • Experience interacting with senior management.
