Salary Range: DAG I: Pay Range 8 Starting salary of $64,431

DAG II: Pay Range 9 Starting salary of $73,722

DAG III: Pay Range 10 Starting salary of $84,264


Basic Function


The position of Deputy Attorney General I (DAG I) within the Charitable Trusts and Organizations Section involves conducting investigations and enforcement actions regarding property committed to charitable purposes to ensure it is duly administered for the benefit of the public-at-large. This position entails professional work rendering legal services of importance under the supervision of more senior attorneys and concentrating in the following areas:


  • the proper administration of decedents estates and inter vivos trusts involving a charitable interest pursuant to the Commonwealth Attorneys Act, 71 P.S. §§ 732-101 et seq., the Probates, Estates & Fiduciaries Code, 20 Pa. C.S. §§ 101, et seq., and Pennsylvanias common law;

  • the governance of nonprofit organizations formed for charitable purposes in redressing the waste, mismanagement, or diversion of assets, as well as overseeing amendments to organizational purposes and change-of-control transactions to ensure compliance with the Associations Code, 15 Pa. C.S. §§ 101, et seq., and the Nonprofit Corporations Law of 1988, 15 Pa. C.S. §§ 5101, et seq.; and

  • public fundraising campaigns conducted by charitable organizations and/or their professional fundraisers subject to the Solicitation of Funds for Charitable Purposes Act, 10 P.S. §§ 162.1 et seq., and Unfair Trade Practices and Consumer Protection Law, 73 P.S. §§ 201-1, et seq.

An employee in this position assists more senior attorneys with various tasks in the preparation of legal matters. As a DAG I gains experience, their work involves more difficult assignments and is performed with greater independence.

The position of Deputy Attorney General II (DAG II) within the Charitable Trusts and Organizations Section performs the same duties as a DAG I, but assignments involve cases of moderate complexity and greater importance with supervision being provided by more senior attorneys. An employee in this position may handle noncomplex litigation with minimal supervision and will assist more senior attorneys on matters deemed to be more complex and difficult. As a DAG II gains experience, their work becomes more complex and is performed with greater independence.

A Deputy Attorney General (DAG) III works independently on most matters to perform advanced professional work rendering legal services of a complex nature in cases of particular significance. DAG III assignments involve the entire spectrum of the legal process from legal analysis and enforcement actions to pre-trial and trial preparation, extensive motions practice, and related court appearances.




  • Prepares legal research and analysis, and provides recommendations to supervisors with respect to civil investigations and enforcement actions

  • Participates in all aspects of civil litigation before state and federal courts including, but not limited to:

  1. drafting pleadings, motions, briefs, and memoranda
  2. conducting discovery and trial preparation
  3. planning, preparing, and presenting factual and expert witness testimony and exhibits including summary and demonstrative exhibits
  4. participating in status conferences, oral arguments, and evidentiary hearings
  5. assisting in post-trial appeals as necessary

  • Participates in multistate working groups, investigations, and litigation on issues of nationwide interest

  • Prepares and answers intra-office correspondence, including correspondence with complainants; opposing counsel; representatives of local, state, and federal law enforcement and regulatory agencies; consumer advocates and organizations; and public inquiries as necessary

  • Maintains complete and accurate electronic files within the case management system

  • Performs all other related work as required


Deputy Attorney General I:


  • Graduation from an accredited school of law and admission to the Bar of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania

Deputy Attorney General II:


  • Graduation from an accredited school of law, admission to the Bar of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania, and a minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in professional legal work

Deputy Attorney General III:

  • Graduation from an accredited school of law, admission to the Bar of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania, and a minimum of three years of progressively responsible experience in professional legal work
