The Opportunity:

This position is one of eleven attorneys in the Legal Department, and reports to Sephoras Sr. Counsel, Employment & Labor. This attorney will spend the majority of their time acting as the Legal Department contact for employment law matters related to Sephoras retail stores, corporate offices and distribution centers. This role also involves handling complex legal projects; supporting the resolution of administrative agency charges; and managing employment litigation matters.


Your role at Sephora:
The successful candidate will possess excellent communication, problem-solving and organizational skills, and enjoy a fast-paced, hands-on, proactive environment. This candidate will be comfortable working collaboratively and independently within the Legal team, as well as across other functional teams and with external stakeholders.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Provide employment law advice and counseling to our Human Resources team and other business stakeholders in North America on a broad range of issues, including recruiting, employee relations, performance management, leaves of absence, disability accommodations, wage and hour compliance, terminations, internal investigations, compensation and workplace harassment.
  • Investigating and responding to EEOC charges; other administrative agency claims; and demand letters.
  • Managing employment compliance issues across all states, including individual localities.
  • Engaging in active risk mitigation, including developing and delivering trainings and legal updates.
  • Manage employment-related projects, including process reviews and the creation, implementation, and continual improvement of policies andprocedures.
  • Coordinating case strategy on active litigation matters with outside counsel.
  • Assist with other responsibilities in the Legal Department as needed

Were excited about you if you have:

  • 5+ years of labor and employment experience (advice/counseling and employment litigation).
  • J.D. degree. Major national law firm and/or in-house experience.
  • Admitted to practice in California or New York.
  • Approachable and patient with a passion for providing excellent client service.
  • Excellent business-oriented judgment and the ability to analyze problems, propose resolutions, and provide sound legal advice that is creative and practical, taking into account the needs and objectives of the business.
  • Good negotiation skills.
  • Highly collaborative with the ability to build relationships across various functions and teams from senior leadership to operations and store personnel.
  • Effective communicator who can explain complex legal concepts to non-lawyers.
  • Experience with labor relations a plus.

The annual base salary range for this position is $165,000.00- $205,000.00 The actual base salary offered depends on a variety of factors, which may include, as applicable, the applicants qualifications for the position; years of relevant experience; specific and unique skills; level of education attained; certifications or other professional licenses held; other legitimate, non-discriminatory business factors specific to the position; and the geographic location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will perform the job. Individuals employed in this position may also be eligible to earn bonuses.
