Lilly is looking for an experienced attorney skilled in cybersecurity. The successful candidate will be a cybersecurity attorney with impeccable judgement who will provide and lead strategic legal counsel on global cybersecurity risks to the organization. The individual must be energized by working in a dynamic environment with broad leadership responsibility, as this position will effectively partner with a wide range of collaborators across the company. This attorney will have direct, front-line responsibility providing strategic counsel to various functions, including ethics and compliance, information technology, cybersecurity, and privacy. This role will collaborate closely with regional and specialty legal colleagues to counsel and strategize on information security, cybersecurity, and privacy issues, including compliance with existing and emerging laws around the globe. This attorney will also collaborate with the government affairs team in influencing legislation and industry standards related to information security, cybersecurity, and privacy. The position reports to the Associate VP-Assistant General Counsel, Information Security and Privacy.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide proactive and strategic counsel to business partners on matters related to cybersecurity
  • As needed, collaborate with other team members to provide counsel in areas of privacy and artificial intelligence
  • Partner effectively and coordinate across Legal, as well as Ethics and Compliance, Information Technology and Security, and Global Security to identify innovative cybersecurity solutions and compliance practices for information, products, and internal operations
  • Proactively monitor, train, and advise on emerging risks, regulations, and best practices
  • Provide legal counsel on cybersecurity incident response actions and internal investigations
  • Ensure the organization maintains appropriate cybersecurity policies, notices, standards, controls, playbooks, and other practices and processes cross-functionally and as a part of global operations
  • Educate business and operation leads, ethics and compliance, information technology and security colleagues on potential legal implications of proposed cybersecurity platforms, programs, and practices
  • Participate as a core member of teams responsible for cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and privacy strategies
  • Represent Lilly in various industry, legal and other relevant external groups related to cybersecurity
  • Draft and review, and otherwise support negotiations regarding cybersecurity provisions in a wide variety of agreements

Basic Qualifications

  • J.D. degree from accredited school.
  • Active license to practice law in the United States
  • A minimum 10 years of experience as a practicing attorney, including at least 6 years of experience in cybersecurity or relevant field

Additional Skills/Preferences

  • Preference for in-house legal experience, ideally with a global pharmaceutical or biotechnology company, or advising global corporation clients at a law-firm, or some combination of the two.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of various cybersecurity regulations, frameworks, and accompanying guidance
  • Experience successfully and strategically handling cybersecurity risks, threats, and breaches
  • Ability to research, track, and turn regulations and enforcement trends into practical, actionable advice
  • Demonstrated collaboration skills with corporate business partners and/or clients, including the ability to work closely with information technology and security teammates and a clear understanding of roles and responsibilities
  • Basic knowledge of and understanding of law enforcement, criminal investigative, and national security entities
  • Good judgement and a meticulous level of attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a demonstrated ability to influence others
  • Demonstrated commitment to expand knowledge and adapt to the changing environment
  • Comfortable operating with a sense of urgency and ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced and evolving environment
  • Ability to engage across global geographic markets and different operating models
  • Experience counseling on emerging regulations and best practices in artificial intelligence, privacy, and information security
  • Experience counseling technology teams

Lilly currently anticipates that the base salary for this position could range from between $222,000 to $325,600 and will depend, in part, on the successful candidates qualifications for the role, including education and experience. Full-time equivalent employees also will be eligible for a company bonus (depending, in part, on company and individual performance). In addition, Lilly offers a comprehensive benefit program to eligible employees, including eligibility to participate in a company-sponsored 401(k); pension; vacation benefits; eligibility for medical, dental, vision and prescription drug benefits; flexible benefits (e.g., healthcare and/or dependent day care flexible spending accounts); life insurance and death benefits; certain time off and leave of absence benefits; and well-being benefits (e.g., employee assistance program, fitness benefits, and employee clubs and activities).Of course, the compensation described above is subject to change and could be higher or lower than the range described above.
