Senior Counsel, Litigation and Compliance

OVERVIEW

Alo Yoga and BELLA+CANVAS are seeking an experienced litigation and compliance attorney to support their growing in-house legal department. This is a rare opportunity for a litigator to move in-house but continue to actively litigate cases at a high level, in addition to managing robust compliance initiatives and providing counsel on a range of legal issues. This position is a hybrid remote/in-office role and candidates will be expected to work in the companies headquarters in the Beverly Hills office three days a week.

The ideal candidate has extensive senior-level experience in all phases of litigation (including trial/arbitration) and wants to transition to an in-house role while still playing an active role in litigation. This means researching and drafting briefs, managing discovery, taking depositions, and appearing in court on small and mid-size cases where all work will be done in-house. It also means working closely with outside counsel on larger cases where the workload will be split between the in-house team and outside counsel.

The ideal candidate will also have experience advising clients on compliance issues faced by the apparel and retail industries, including laws and regulations on data privacy (e.g., GDPR, CPRA, VPPA, etc.), marketing (e.g., FTC, sustainability, greenwashing, endorsements, etc.), the environment (e.g., Prop 65), and textiles (labeling requirements, etc.).

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Manage and run litigations on a day-to-day basis and handle everything from pleadings and discovery to experts and trials/arbitrations
• Research and assess varied legal issues, lead or assist with internal investigations, and respond to pre-litigation demands and disputes
• Work closely with business team leaders to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations and advise on response to related customer inquiries
• Audit business practices and develop policies and procedures to improve and streamline compliance initiatives and manage risks associated with business activities
• Join a growing team that supports all aspects of the business for two rapidly growing companies and work closely with other legal team members (IP, litigation, real estate, employment, and corporate)

QUALIFICATIONS

• 5-10 years of litigation/compliance experience, including in big law or another in-house role
• On the litigation side, experience with employment cases (including PAGA and class actions) and consumer cases in Los Angeles Superior Court and/or the Central District of California are preferred but not required
• On the compliance side, retail and apparel experience is preferred but not required
• J.D. from a top tier law school
• Admission to California bar

The base pay range for this position is $225,000 - $265,000, which represents the current range for this exempt position. Please note that actual pay will vary based on factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. As such, on occasion and when applicable, there is the possibility that the final, agreed-upon base salary may be outside of the upper end of the range. Please also note the range listed is just one component of the Companys total rewards package for exempt employees. Other aspects of compensation include performance bonuses, stock appreciation rights, an unlimited PTO policy, and other progressive benefits.
