Nilfisk is looking for a proactive, pragmatic, and detailed oriented IPR Attorney to join our team. This is a hybrid role reporting into our Brooklyn Park, MN office 2 - 3 days per week.

This role has an unique opportunity to join a history-rich and well-established global company as an IPR Attorney. This position works in a small global IPR team, with a focus on enhancing IPR in the R&D site located in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota. This role will make meaningful impacts on the strategic IPR direction of the organization. The IPR Attorney works closely with the R&D teams, and the Corporate Affairs organization, which consists of Group Legal, M&A, Compliance, and Regulatory. This role is for someone that thrives in an interdisciplinary environment and work effectively in close collaboration with a diverse group of stakeholders.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Invention harvesting Collaborate with R&D to find new inventions that are patentable and perform an initial interview with the R&D engineers to ensure that the necessary information is obtained and material for the patent application is created. Ensure that there are no issues regarding copyright or existing patent infringement.
  • Patent applications Draft and prosecute patent applications directly with PCT/US authorities as well as work with outside patent counsels and take care of the following case process as well as register Nilfisks trademarks and copy rights.
  • Patent analysis Conduct patentability analyses, novelty searches, invalidity analyses, surveillance of competitors, freedom-to-operate investigations, and patent landscape analyses.
  • Patent portfolio management Coordinate patent activities and Nilfisks patent, trademark, and copyright portfolio through timely submission of all registrations and payment of fees. Ensure that corporation agreements and contracts are in place.
  • Patent law Handle infringements as well as training and education of employees in the freedom-to-operate within the area they work in.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering and Law
  • 2-3+ years of extensive experience working with Intellectual Property, patent application processes, and patent law, preferably, with experience from an external patent agency
  • Master the key points of contract clauses and able to formulate and review agreements related to intellectual property rights.
  • Understand the value of enterprise intellectual property and the law of its combination with brand protection and business operation.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills to work with all levels of stakeholders, including senior management, engineers/researchers, and patent agencies.
  • Creative and effective problem-solving skills.
