Summary:

Provides legal support for the company across all areas of the US related to environmental compliance issues. Job duties include assisting operations support functions on issue related to compliance with federal and state environmental issues.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support various operational activities of the company related to issues of environmental law and compliance

  • Counsel in connection with incident response and emergencies

  • Assist with responses to government agency inquiries or proceedings

  • Provide support, in coordination with project support counsel, in contract review and negotiation of environmental-related issues affecting the companys operations

  • Provide support, in coordination with dedicated litigation counsel, on environmental litigation matters

Requirements:

Education and/or Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements for this position are listed below:

  • Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school

  • Licensed in good standing to practice law in a US jurisdiction

  • 6+ years of experience as counsel in a fast-paced environment (preferably major law firm experience or mid-level experience at an environmental regulatory agency)

  • Strong environmental law background required with pipeline industry experience preferred

  • Strong state environmental regulatory experience is helpful

  • Strong writing and legal analysis skills required

  • Strong academic credentials and previous training in respected law firm, corporate legal department, or administrative agency required

  • In-house experience helpful

  • Must be a self-starter, detail oriented, and able to work as a member of a busy team

Working Conditions:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

  • Usually, normal office working conditions

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time due to prolonged periods of sitting or standing

  • Occasional overnight travel may be required
