Job Description

The Commercial Litigation team at McDonalds is a multifaceted group of commercial litigators and legal professionals who serve as McDonalds internal experts on litigation. The team handles a wide variety of commercial disputes, both in the US and across the globe. These include franchising disputes; consumer and employment class action cases; real estate disputes; IP claims; breach of contract, unfair business practices and other business tort litigation; and government investigations. The teams primary objectives are to efficiently promote the Companys interests in litigation and other disputes, to resolve disputes in areas where the Company may be able to avoid litigation, and to mitigate risk and potential damages in matters where the Company is unable to avoid litigation.

Attorneys on the Commercial Litigation team are expected to:

  • Handle a docket of diverse and high-profile commercial litigation matters;
  • Effectively engage in every aspect of the litigation process, including assessing risk, developing strategy, partnering with outside counsel, handling budgets, ensuring compliance with e-discovery requirements, preparing for trial, and devising appellate strategy;
  • Lead every aspect of litigation in which McDonalds is a party, including corresponding with opposing counsel, drafting pleadings, preparing and responding to discovery, preparing witnesses for deposition and trial testimony, representing witnesses in depositions, and preparing for oral arguments;
  • Provide advice and counsel to Legal Department colleagues and business partners to reduce legal risk in business matters, avoid litigation, and protect the Brand;
  • Strategically respond to governmental investigations and Congressional inquiries on behalf of the Company; and
  • Provide advice and counsel in connection with the rollout of new policies, initiatives, equipment, products, and technologies.

Qualifications

  • You are licensed to practice law and in good standing with a state bar association.
  • You should have 6+ years of strong commercial litigation experience in a law firm or in-house litigation position, preferably including trial experience.
