General Counsel
General Counsel to manage a $100m Family Trust suite of businesses is needed – is that you? I hope so!
My client is looking for a General Counsel to set-up and establish the legal functions of a $100m privately held investment fund, someone who can bring a top-down approach to creating a department from scratch while monitoring/babysitting/protecting the fund’s assets.
Here’s a unique twist: they’d love to find an attorney who has experience in taking biomass and converting it to storable energy; someone who can navigate the regulatory trenches of that field would be ideal (if you’re out there and reading).
One of their subsidiary companies is also a manufacturing company that works with government institutions like schools, so experience with supply chains would be helpful.
They also work with a REIT, to give you – Mr. or Ms. Right – an idea of what could make you stand out.
They’d strongly prefer someone who lives in Houston but are open to a remote/hybrid schedule for truly outstanding candidates.

Qualifications and Further Details:
· 10+ years practice with an established law firm or relevant in-house counsel experience with a premium placed on those who have worked with INVESTMENT MANAGEMENT FUNDS in the past;
· JD or LLM;
· Location: Houston, TX.
· Compensation: $250,000+/year BASE with potential seven figure equity plan participation as part of a year-to-year contract as renewed by the board
NOTE ON PAY: Please, do not let this number dissuade you from applying. While they expect to land in the $250k range for the BASE salary, there will be legitimate and serious incentives negotiated.
Responsibilities:
· Report directly to the CEO and function as part of the C Suite;
· Oversee the negotiation and execution of business contracts that drive the value and risk management pillars of the trust;
· Set strategy for, and manage execution of, internal and external compliance and risk management;
· Provide legal oversight to other departments (e.g., HR, operations, marketing, sales, etc.);
· Work with go to market team to leverage risk management into a key asset to drive revenue growth;
· Participate in strategic planning for growth and operational excellence;
· Deploy a contract administration process across the organization; and
· Develop a matrixed team of professionals to assist in growth expansion.
