Our Opportunity:

Chewy is looking for a Senior Corporate Counsel Employment Law to join our Legal Team based in Plantation, Florida. This position is an exciting opportunity for the successful candidate to join a fast-paced, dynamic Legal Department supporting all aspects of Chewys healthcare business with respect to employment and labor law. The successful candidate will provide day-to-day employment law advice and counseling to HR professionals and business managers regarding healthcare employees, including veterinary clinics, virtual pet care, corporate, and customer service employees. This position requires close collaboration with human resources and other business stakeholders, and the other attorneys in the Legal Department.

What You'll Do:

  • Partner directly with HR professionals and other business stakeholders to provide advice and counseling on multi-jurisdictional employment laws, including, but not limited to, wage/hour compliance; leaves of absence and accommodations; drug testing and background screenings; discrimination; and retaliation under both federal and applicable state/local regulations.
  • Advise HR professionals on emerging legislative and regulatory changes affecting employment and labor obligations in multi-jurisdictional operations
  • Review and revise internal policies and procedures to ensure multi-jurisdictional regulatory compliance.
  • Develop and deliver proactive training to business leaders on a wide variety of employment law matters.
  • Supervise outside counsel with respect to employment litigation matters.
  • Provide legal representation and/or supervise outside counsel regarding government administrative agency charges, audits, and investigations (e.g., EEOC, DOL, OSHA and state/local agencies) as well as attorney demand letters and claims involving employment-related concerns.
  • Draft and negotiate employment-related documents including separation agreements and restrictive covenant agreements.
  • Partner with and support HR professionals regarding compensation, ERISA and immigration matters.

What You'll Need:

  • JD from an accredited school with exceptional academic credentials
  • Minimum 6 years experience in a dedicated employment law practice, either in-house and/or with a national law firm.
  • Subject matter expertise in multi-jurisdictional wage hour compliance and litigation is strongly preferred.
  • Subject matter expertise in employment issues and disputes is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to think on your feet in order to independently identify employment law risks and formulate strategies regarding same. Position requires significant experience providing direct and timely advice and counseling to business clients at various levels of the organization.
  • Ability to think strategically and evaluate potential risks to the Company, including economic, legal and reputational.
  • Self-motivated, able to work with minimal supervision, and assume significant responsibility in keeping with the level of experience in employment law.
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills. This position requires fast-paced multi-tasking and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple issues involving business partners in various locations.
  • Active license to practice law in at least one state and ability to become licensed as in-house counsel in Florida.
  • Candidate should possess empathy, excellent professional judgment, and a good sense of humor.
  • Position may require travel.

Bonus:

  • Experience with client operations in healthcare space, including veterinary clinics or other healthcare providers is highly beneficial.

Compensation & Benefits:

Our salary range for a Senior Corporate Counsel Employment Law position is $124,500.00 - $245,000.00. The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including but not limited to the candidates relevant experience, education, and work location. In addition, this position is eligible for 401k and a new hire and annual equity grant.

Non-exempt hourly team members in Fulfillment Centers and Customer Service are also eligible for additional unplanned unpaid time off (UTO). Team members will receive six paid holidays per year. Team members may be eligible for paid sick and family leave in compliance with applicable state and local regulations.
