Overview

The Touro University Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center seeks applicants to direct our new Small Business Legal Assistance Clinic. The appointment will be as Director of the clinic and an Assistant Clinical Professor of Law with an annual contract renewable for up to 3 years. The Small Business Clinic will be part of a robust collaborative in-house law practice, and will provide pro bono legal services to local Long Island small businesses. The clinics focus is to serve minority and women-owned businesses. The clinic will advise clients on legal issues such as incorporation, negotiation, and lease drafting for commercial space, by-laws, employee and personnel practices, and other basic legal issues. It will also partner with local organizations to provide regular networking and educational programming for small businesses. Applicants are expected to be willing and capable of teaching in-person and remotely and familiar with best practices in both modalities.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Work with clinical law faculty on providing instruction and guidance to students on ethical and professional standards for law practice and the law pertinent to the Centers work.
  • Supervise students and also handle cases for the Small Business Legal Assistance Clinic.
  • Keep accurate electronic records regarding cases.
  • Prepare and teach graduate law student courses in a physical classroom and/or a virtual classroom.
  • Prepare course materials such as syllabi, assessments, and handouts.
  • Submit timely, standardized clinic student evaluations and grade student assignments.
  • Maintain regularly scheduled office hours to advise and assist students.
  • Conduct weekly supervision meetings with clinic students.
  • Stay current in and continually strive to improve teaching skills and expertise in the subjects that they teach.
  • Stay informed of changes in the law and remain current in recent statutory changes and case law developments.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to address teaching and research issues.
  • Commit to service to legal education and to the wider community.
  • Engage in the intellectual life of the Law Center.
  • Participate on faculty committees.
  • Attend faculty meetings and Law Center events.

Qualifications

Education/ Experience

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA accredited law school.
  • Experience in transactional law.

Knowledge/ Skills/ Abilities

  • Qualified to provide excellent representation to business entities through transactional legal work.
  • Ability to train and teach others.
  • Ability to make decisions and solve problems.
  • Resolve conflicts and negotiate with others.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills in communications with supervisors, peers, and subordinates.
  • Display excellent organizational skills including scheduling of events.
  • Perform faculty administrative responsibilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook.
  • Ability to learn Clio case management software.

Travel

  • Travel to court and to meet clients and community partners.
  • Travel to conference and professional development opportunities.

Maximum Salary

USD $100,000.00/Yr.

Minimum Salary

USD $80,000.00/Yr.
