Position Summary:

The Staff Attorney will be responsible for managing consumer disputes across multiple business sectors within the Clayton family of companies.

As part of the Clayton in-house litigation team, the Staff Attorney will report to the Associate General Counsel. They will work closely with outside counsel, business leaders, and legal coordinators to resolve a variety of matters, including consumer disputes. The Staff Attorney will assist with developing legal strategies supporting effective and efficient dispute resolution.

Responsibilities:

  • Builds familiarity with core legal areas: consumer warranty, consumer contract litigation, personal injury disputes, financial services (lending and insurance)

  • Able to manage outside counsel and consumer disputes with limited attorney oversight

  • Able to identify issues in consumer litigation with oversight by AGC

  • Jury trial and/or final arbitration hearing experience preferred

  • Learns HUD Code

  • Learns laws and regulations governing factory built housing, tort claims, and financial services disputes

  • Works with different business units on legal matters with limited AGC oversight

  • Learns to identify when to escalate legal matters to AGC

  • Learns to utilize outside counsel and resources effectively and efficiently

  • Identifies business stakeholders and builds trust/rapport

  • Solicits input/review on complex issues.

  • Responds timely to AGC and GC

  • Able to work with and provide direction to Legal Coordinators

  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school

  • Admission to Tennessee Bar

  • 1-2 years litigation/arbitration and pre-trial practice experience preferred

  • Superb legal research, writing and analytical skills

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

  • Strong time management skills

  • Must be resilient and handle feedback with ease

  • Learns Claytons business operations
