Role x You:

Counsel, Business & Legal Affairs will be a core member of the general business and legal affairs function of VICE Media Group. The role is based in Los Angeles or New York, and will include:

  • Supporting the day-to-day business and legal affairs for VICE Medias U.S. Studios operations (comprising film, TV, podcasts, and documentary and commercials/music videos/branded projects), reporting to the Senior Counsel, Business & Legal Affairs.

  • In addition, supporting VICEs business affairs function across its global film, TV, podcast, and documentary deals.

  • Assisting in driving and securing the best deals possible to help achieve the creative and commercial objectives of the businesses.

  • Presenting a best in class image of VICE Media Group to the outside world.

  • Ensuring effective communication with the development, production, finance, post-production, and distribution teams across the businesses.

Responsibilities:

  • Front-line support for VICE Medias day-to-day U.S.-based Studios film, TV, podcast, and documentary and commercials/music videos/branded business and legal affairs activities to ensure smooth processes, best practice, and legal compliance. Occasional support for the UK team.

  • Drafting and negotiating development, production, co-production, distribution, and financing deals for VICE Media Group, focused primarily on:

    • Unscripted development projects: managing the legal process and supporting business affairs negotiations;

    • Managing external counsel;

    • Supporting general corporate/operational legal and business affairs activities;

    • From time to time, providing drafting support for other legal/business affairs groups at VMG, including Vice TV and Pulse business and legal affairs.

  • Managing and advising team members on applicable aspects of compliance with guild/talent union contracts.

You have these:

  • A lawyer with at least three years experience gained at either a leading national or international law firm with a strong entertainment practice, and/or within a fast-paced film/TV production or distribution environment.

  • Strong working knowledge of the legal and commercial basis of film and TV development, financing, production, distribution, IP rights, talent deals, rights exploitation, and emerging business models and broadcast platforms.

  • Hungry to learn, autonomous, readily assumes responsibility, self-motivated, and a natural multitasker.

  • Enjoys solving complex legal and commercial problems, learns quickly, and has clarity of thought.

  • Hard working and dedicated, flexible and committed.

  • Effective and diplomatic communicator.

  • Member in good standing of the California or New York Bar (or Registered In-House Counsel if applicable).

The salary range is subject to change and may be amended in the future. Experience, education, skills, and other factors are considered when determining the salary offered.

Pay Range Details:

New York/California: 140,000 - 150,000 USD
