PSECU, a high-tech progressive financial institution with more than $8 billion in assets, is seeking a Assistant General Counsel that plays a pivotal role within the credit union’s Risk Management leadership team. Responsible for providing legal guidance to senior management and credit union staff, overseeing external legal counsel, and advising the Board of Directors at the request of the General Counsel (GC), the Assistant General Counsel collaborates closely with the Chief Risk Officer & General Counsel, and other members of the Legal and Risk Management teams. Their goal is to offer legal support and strategic guidance, ensuring the credit union achieves its objectives while mitigating risks.

Employee Type: Full-time, Exempt

Schedule: Monday - Friday; 8:30am-5:30pm. This is a hybrid schedule working remotely with minimum onsite expectation of 40%, or as needed.

Minimum Starting Payrate: (Commensurate with experience)

DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES - Essential for this position:

  • Responsible for the effective performance of team by coaching, mentoring, developing, and motivating employees reporting to position, managing for results, and hiring/staffing appropriately.
  • Interfaces with the Board of Directors and Board Committees in the absence of the GC or as assigned by the GC, including attending meetings and presenting the information necessary and relevant to the Board to perform its duties.
  • Proactively leads, champions, and consults with business partners in the development and implementation of contemporary, future-oriented, and balanced risk management strategies, practices, and solutions that allow the company to achieve strategic growth and profitability goals.
  • Leads legal staff and instills a balanced risk-based approach to decision-making, providing oversight and accountability of all enterprise risks.
  • Responsible for coaching, mentoring, developing, and motivating employees reporting to position, managing for results, and hiring/staffing appropriately.
  • Supports the negotiation, drafting, and review of contracts.
  • Acts as liaison to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Department of Banking and the NCUA, as well as the Pennsylvania Credit Union Association and other state and federal agencies and organizations.
  • Appropriately assists in the allocation of legal resources among other departments of PSECU in the operational flow of the credit union. Monitors and responds to type of work requested, declining non-legal or administrative work better assigned to staff of other departments. Provides client operations review and recommends changes where appropriate.

MINIMUM / PREFERRED EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:

  • Juris Doctorate degree and admission to the practice of law in Pennsylvania.
  • Minimum of ten years of experience practicing law, with at least five of those years spent working in-house with a financial institution or at law firm supporting financial institutions.
