Our Legal Division is expanding to enhance solutions for millions of clients and their families. We are looking for an experienced attorney to provide leadership to the Firm, Legal Division, and legal associates in support of the Firm's multi-disciplinary transformational efforts and Product Management function that deliver financial products, solutions, and services to the Firm's clients and branch teams. This opportunity will afford the successful candidate the opportunity to be a part of a culture that inspires the individual and supports him or her. This leader will be responsible for:
  • Providing strategic leadership to the Enterprise Product Team, including leading strategy and team planning.
  • Leading associates who provide strategic legal leadership to the U.S. business segment's multi-disciplinary, transformational efforts and Product Management function to ensure solutions are delivered in a way that provides an ideal experience for clients, branch teams, and colleagues, while meeting legal and regulatory obligations and mitigating risk.
  • Developing and managing strategic relationships with senior leaders across the Firm.
  • Developing associates on the team with the knowledge and skills needed to execute on the Firm plan.
  • Understanding and interpreting laws, rules and regulations affecting the Firm's business.
  • Proactively spotting legal, regulatory, and business risks, and coordinating with subject matter experts to ensure business leaders understand those risks while meeting business objectives.
  • Leading across the team, Legal Division, and firm with emotional intelligence by listening, understanding, and responding with empathy to the unique needs of our colleagues.
  • Navigating complex issues and partnering with associates on the team, peers, and leaders within and outside the Legal Division to connect dot across initiatives, advise on impacts to the Firm and develop best practices for executing on the Firm's plan.
  • Effectively communicating and sharing information across the Firm and Legal Division.
  • Partnering with other leaders within the Legal Division to plan and allocate resources with respect to how the Legal Division supports the priorities and projects on the Firm's plan.
  • Managing a workload, personally and of the team, that is large, diverse, and complex.

Position Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
SKILLS & ABILITIES
Ability to Partner: Ability to successfully coordinate with associates across the Firm and Legal Division in a collaborative manner to deliver results and move important work through the Firm.
Legal Knowledge and Integrity: Strong legal practice. Exceptional legal knowledge, judgment, work ethic and integrity, and a demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality. Familiarity with financial products, solutions and services and applicable laws and regulations. Commitment to a high level of ethics and professionalism.
Strategic Planning and Execution: Ability to provide strategic thought leadership, support, and advice to the Firm and its affiliates on a wide range of matters pertaining to financial products, solutions, and services.
Critical Thinking and Analytical Skills: Ability to develop and implement solutions to eliminate, manage and mitigate risk to the Firm. Ability to analyze and resolve complex legal matters and recommend changes to organizational policies and procedures.
Prioritization and Decision-Making. Sound judgment, decision making, and conflict resolution skills. Creative thinker who is highly organized and has exceptional prioritization skills.
Communication Skills: Excellent communication (oral and written), presentation and interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to convey complex issues to legal and non-legal professionals, including senior leaders, at all levels.
Interact with Outside Counsel: Ability to interact with sophisticated outside counsel to identify, evaluate and resolve complex legal questions and issues.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Juris Doctorate with exceptional academic credentials
  • License to practice law in Missouri or an equivalent state
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of progressive responsibility as an attorney in private practice, in the public sector (including with a regulator) or in an in-house counsel capacity
  • Demonstrated ability to lead
  • Securities industry experience or experience in a highly regulated industry preferred
  • Technological aptitude and ability to learn new technologies
  • Experience providing legal support to high-risk, complex business projects is preferred
