Immediate opening for a full-time Senior University Counsel in the Office of the General Counsel of Stanford University. The position reports to the Deputy General Counsel and Managing Attorney. General responsibilities may include overseeing litigation; managing discovery obligations (subpoenas, warrants and government inquiries); and providing advice and counsel on areas such as academic affairs, faculty affairs, research, antitrust, and university policies and procedures. This position requires discretion, flexibility, and the ability to understand and manage projects with competing interests in a constantly changing, cutting edge environment. The successful candidate must be able to work independently while also partnering and working with outside counsel and other attorneys.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Candidates should have a law degree from an accredited law school and a minimum of ten years of relevant experience gained in private practice or as in-house counsel, ideally in the higher education space. Candidates should be admitted to the California state bar or able to become admitted upon assuming this role.

Requirements include excellent academic credentials, writing, analytical and communication skills as well as good judgment and a practical approach to solving legal problems.

The expected pay range for this position is $250,000-$340,000 per annum. Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
