THE OPPORTUNITY:

ZURU is seeking a talented Patent Attorney to join its expanding legal team. This role will give you an opportunity to support the legal patent work from the US and have occasional travel to our HQ in Auckland, New Zealand.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

• Drafting and prosecuting patent applications in the mechanical arts, including toys, consumer goods, and construction technologies.
• Preparing and filing design registrations.
• Collaborating with outside counsel around the world to obtain protection in foreign jurisdictions.
• Working closely with product teams to identify and minimize IP risk associated with new products.
• Providing patentability and freedom to operate opinions for new products. Providing support for patent litigation

WHAT YOU'LL BRING

• Bachelors degree or higher in mechanical engineering, mechatronics, physics, or a related discipline
• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree or equivalent from an accredited law school and admission to at least one bar
• You are registered to practice before the USPTO, IPONZ, or EPO.
• A minimum of 5 years of experience as a patent attorney drafting and prosecuting patent applications in the mechanical arts
• Proven track record of successfully prosecuting patents before the USPTO, IPONZ, or EPO
• Up-to-date knowledge of intellectual property laws, regulations, and industry trends. Experience providing patentability and freedom to operate opinions
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
• Ability to manage multiple projects and work effectively in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will also have experience with industrial designs, trademarks, and trade secrets
• Willing and able to occasionally travel to Auckland, New Zealand
