Associate General Counsel - Southeast Region

Heidelberg Materials North America is seeking a qualified Associate General Counsel for its Southeast Region. This position is based in either Atlanta, GA or Lexington, SC and is primarily on-site. This position reports directly to the Companys Vice President & General Counsel and works closely with the other attorneys in Heidelberg Materials North Americas Legal Department and is expected to be an integral part of the Legal team.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES and TASKS
The position of Associate General Counsel will be responsible for managing all legal matters relating to the operations and strategic goals within the Southeast Region, including SEFA, with an emphasis on negotiating and drafting purchasing and sales contracts, contracts with electric utilities and governmental entities for fly ash beneficiation, contracts to provide construction-related services for manufacturing and other industrial projects, real estate transactions, antitrust compliance counseling, commercial, employment and personal injury litigation, and contingent liability reporting for accounting provisioning. The AGC Southeast Region will be the trusted legal advisor for Southeast Region and SEFA leadership. Responsibilities include the selection and management of outside law firms when local counsel or legal expertise is required. In addition, the AGC may perform special legal assignments from time to time at the request and direction of the Vice President & General Counsel.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates must:

  • Hold a Juris Doctor (J.D.) or equivalent law degree from an accredited institution and be admitted to the bar in good standing in a state in the United States.
  • Have seven (7) or more years of experience with a law firm, government agency or a legal department.
  • Be able to work independently with minimum legal supervision and collaboratively with other business managers as part of a regional management team.
  • Have a general understanding of the legal issues that commonly arise in the ordinary course of business operations, together with the ability to quickly learn and grasp the legal importance of new and unfamiliar issues.
  • Have the demonstrated ability to function as a legal generalist and promptly provide practical legal advice to experienced business managers in a fast-paced commercial environment.
  • Have a commitment to excellence and high standards of integrity, honesty, and business ethics.

The ideal candidate will have experience drafting significant contracts with utilities, governmental entities and manufacturing companies and an aptitude for the legal, business and finance related aspects of these long-term relationships. Experience with legislative policy development would be a plus. The candidate will be expected to become an integral member of the project team tasked with developing and maintaining these contractual relationships.
