Associate General Counsel

About the role.
We are seeking an experienced insurance attorney to join our Legal & Compliance team in White Plains, NY. This role will report to the SVP, Deputy General Counsel. In this role, you will respond to legal and regulatory matters, manage corporate litigation and handle other legal matters, as deemed necessary, while partnering with various departments across the organization.


What youll do.

  • Collaborate with the regulatory compliance team to provide guidance and advice regarding products and transactions such as rate and form filings, non-renewal/cancellation requirements, insurance department objections, examinations and coverage matters
  • Review proprietary insurance policies and manuscript endorsements, provide legal and regulatory advice regarding coverage terms and conditions
  • Research and draft memoranda on relevant insurance legal and regulatory issues
  • Analyze legislative and regulatory developments across the Companys line of business
  • Retain outside counsel and manage non-claims litigation involving the Company
  • Clearly communicate to regulators and manage various regulatory reporting requirements
  • Assist with transaction matters
  • Handle special projects as needed

What were looking for.

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in a law firm and/or in-house with an insurance company
  • Degree from an accredited law school, and bar admission
  • Extensive understanding of property & casualty insurance, preferably in personal lines insurance, with admitted and non-admitted experience
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to analyze laws and regulations
  • Ability to work on multiple tasks and assign priorities to each
  • Ability to exercise sound business and legal judgment
  • Self-starter able to achieve desired outcomes independently and more large initiatives forward
  • Applies emotional intelligence skills in interpersonal listening, written and oral communication
  • Excellent deadline management, analytical and research skills

The base salary for this role can range from $225k - $250k, based on a full-time work schedule. An individuals ultimate compensation will vary depending on job-related skills and experience, geographic location, alignment with market data, and equity among other team members with comparable experience.
