Technip Energies is seeking a Legal Counsel to join our team in our Claremont, CA office. This position will be reporting directly to the Senior Legal Counsel.

Purpose

The Legal Counsel will provide wide-ranging advice and counsel to the Claremont office in support of business and operations activities of several international Business Lines (BL) through pro-active and effective contract management support, and under the supervision and mentoring of a Senior Legal Counsel.

The Legal Counsel shall have excellent drafting and negotiation skills and business sense and will be responsible for contract drafting and negotiations with clients, suppliers and subcontracts. In addition, the Legal Counsel will providing general legal support, in coordination with the other relevant functions on topics related to employment matters, insurance, compliance, and corporate activities.

In addition, the Legal Counsel will provide consultative analytical, and contract management expertise to other functions and departments for the Claremont office such as Procurement, Subcontracting, Finance & Tax, Administration, Tendering, etc. and advise peers and management on legal risks and business strategy.

The Legal Counsel shall ensure that his/her scope, as well as the activities of the Claremont office are carried out in compliance with the applicable Companys rules and standards and shall be responsible to champion and implement all relevant procedures and processes to such effect.

The ideal candidate will be able to work both independently and as part of various teams and to take on special projects and assignments in addition to the daily job.

Main challenges:

  • Multitasking on various concurrent tenders, projects, claims and assignments
  • Numerous internal and external interfaces, requiring a flexible, international and multidisciplinary approach
  • Work on complex energy projects, requiring experience with technology licensing, engineering and construction projects and an understanding of their risks and mechanics, including subcontracting schemes, multi-country execution, financing, and insurance.

Job Responsibilities :

  • Review, qualify, draft, and negotiate a variety of commercial contracts with domestic and international clients including NDAs, engineering service agreements, subcontracts, purchase orders, and other types of contractual documents and agreements generally used in the technology licensing, and the energy or construction industry in compliance with the Company contracting principles.
  • Work with commercial and other internal teams in contracts negotiations with clients, vendors, and subcontractors.
  • Work as an integral part of tendering teams to participate in presentations to senior management and the submission of proposals to clients
  • Act as business partner for project managers both within the legal function and other areas of the Claremont office and the broader Company, providing contracts related support during the performance of contracts, anticipating and managing legal risks associated with the business strategy and operations.
  • Assist with claims and disputes under the guidance of Senior Legal Counsel.

Profile:

Must Have:

  • Juris doctorate degree from a reputable ABA-accredited law school with at least 3 years of experience in contract drafting
  • Admission and good standing to at least one state bar (if not California, then eligibility for the State Bar of California Registered In-House Counsel Program)
  • Experience in the reviewing, drafting, redlining, and negotiation of a variety of complex contracts
  • Strong written (including contract/legal drafting) and oral communication skills in English
  • Ability to deliver high-quality work under deadlines with great attention to detail
  • Ability to multitask
  • Ability to work effectively with people across a wide range of levels and responsibilities

Preferred:

  • Experience in petrochemical industry and/or the renewable energy sector
  • Experience in engineering and construction projects

Compensation:

  • Salary Range - $116,000 - $125,300
  • Competitive benefits package
