Description

At this time, an In-House Counsel is needed to assist the General Counsel in all legal and compliance matters, including contract review, drafting, corporate governance matters, legal research, and assisting and managing litigation. Works to ensure that the company follows regulatory compliance procedures and is within all legal limits.


*Potential candidates MUST meet every one of these requirements:

  • Admitted to the Ohio State Bar.
  • Obtained a J.D. degree from an accredited law school.
  • Worked at a single law firm for at least 2 years straight, in an attorney role.
  • Minimum 4 years experience as an attorney.
  • Must be located within +/- 40 miles from the Strongsville, OH office and able to report full-time. Hybrid subject to successful completion of the probationary period only.

*Hybrid career opportunity; will be required to report to Portfolio's Strongsville, OH office daily for at least the first 120 days. Following the first 120 days - 2 days in office, 3 days at home.


Schedule: Standard Business Hours. Monday - Friday. Reporting to Strongsville, OH office daily.

Compensation: $96,500.00k - 120,000.00k, commensurate with experience and background. Comprehensive Benefits package!


Essential Functions:

  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, agreements, and other legal documents.
  • Assist with acquisitions and other corporate transactions.
  • Manage and maintain relationships with outside counsel.
  • Manage defense of consumer disputes.
  • Collaborate with business units to ensure legal compliance and best practices followed.
  • Maintain working knowledge of the companys operations, legal agreements, and partner relationships.
  • Corporate governance.
  • Assist with intellectual property matters, including trademark and copyright registration and renewals.
  • Assist Compliance team members with form review, legal analysis, and filings.
  • Identify and mitigate potential legal risks and provide proactive solutions.
  • Stay updated on industry and regulatory changes that may affect the company.
  • Conduct legal research and analysis to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal laws and regulations, as needed.
  • Other job duties as assigned.
Requirements

Education and Qualification Requirements:

  • 4 to 7 years in a law firm and/or similar in-house experience.
  • Has worked at a single law firm for at least 2 years straight, in an attorney role.
  • J.D. degree from an accredited law school.
  • Ohio State Bar Admittance required.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Highly motivated with the ability to multi-task and prioritize assignments.
  • Work independently and exercise sound judgment when escalating issues for review.
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite and specialized software applications.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (oral, written, and presentation) to facilitate effective working relationships with internal and external contacts.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

  • Vision acuity is required to include close vision, color vision, distant vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to grasp objects such as telephone or computer mouse, finger dexterity to use a keyboard, calculator, and standard office equipment.
  • Ability to walk, stand, reach with hands and arms; stoop kneel, crouch, and lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to frequently sit for long periods of time.
  • Ability to hear and talk, both in person and by phone.
  • Ability to spend extended hours in front of a computer screen.
