Job Summary:

TO PROVIDE LEGAL SERVICES TO THE UNIVERSITY OF MISSISSIPPI MEDICAL CENTER (UMMC), INCLUDING LITIGATION SUPERVISION, CONTRACT REVIEW, ADMINISTRATIVE LEGAL REVIEWS, HUMAN RESOURCES COUNSEL, ACADEMIC AFFAIRS COUNSEL, AND TO PROVIDE LEGAL ADVICE AND COUNSEL AS NEEDED.

Education & Experience

JURIS DOCTORATE FROM AN ACCREDITED LAW SCHOOL. FIVE (5) YEARS OF RELATED EXPERIENCE INCLUDING SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE OF MEDICAL AND EDUCATION RELATED LAWS, REGULATIONS AND RULES.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED: MUST HAVE MEMBERSHIP OR BE ELIGIBLE FOR MEMBERSHIP TO THE MISSISSIPPI BAR ASSOCIATION BEFORE COMMENCING WORK.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • PROVIDES LEGAL ADVICE AND COUNSEL TO VARIOUS CONSTITUENTS AROUND CAMPUS.
  • PROVIDES LEGAL COUNSEL TO AND MANAGES LEGAL ISSUES FOR AN ASSIGNED AREA(S) OR UNIT(S) AT UMMC. PROVIDES ADMINISTRATION AND OVERSIGHT TO AN ASSIGNED AREA OF THE LEGAL DEPARTMENT.
  • REPRESENTS UMMC IN DEALING WITH POTENTIAL BUYERS/SELLERS/VENDORS, DRAFTS LEGAL DOCUMENTS AND WORKS WITH OUTSIDE COUNSEL.
  • PERFORMS ADMINISTRATIVE AND MANAGEMENT FUNCTIONS RELATED TO THE PRACTICE OF ACADEMIC AFFAIRS, HUMAN RESOURCES, HEALTHCARE, LITIGATION AND/OR TRANSACTIONAL LAW. REVIEWS LEGAL DOCUMENTS, DRAFTS OPINIONS AND POSSIBLY PARTICIPATES IN BOND ISSUES AND SWAPS.
  • SERVES ON APPLICABLE COMMITTEES.
  • THE DUTIES LISTED ARE GENERAL IN NATURE AND ARE EXAMPLES OF THE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES PERFORMED AND ARE NOT MEANT TO BE CONSTRUED AS EXCLUSIVE OR ALL-INCLUSIVE. MANAGEMENT RETAINS THE RIGHT TO ADD OR CHANGE DUTIES AT ANY TIME.

Requires occasional working hours significantly beyond regularly scheduled hours, frequent travelling to offsite locations, occasional activities subject to significant volume changes of a seasonal/clinical nature, occasional lifting and carrying up to 10 pounds, occasional driving, occasional reaching, constant sitting, occasional standing, and occasional walking.
