Position Summary:
Florida Atlantic University is seeking an Associate General Counsel - Boca Raton, FL.
Responsible to the General Counsel. Provides primary in-house counsel on a broad array of external transactional arrangements, including contract and lease negotiation, drafting, and compliance. May be delegated responsibility for the overall direction and management of specific areas of the legal function of the Board of Trustees or the university. Assists as directed by the General Counsel in planning, organizing, and directing all legal activities involving the Board of Trustees or the university. Advises and consults with university or Board officials on legal rights and obligations and assists in the formulation of legal policy.
Summary of Responsibilities:
Responsible for managing university litigation and administrative law matters, including coordinating with the States Division of Risk Management on the selection and assignment of outside counsel, overseeing discovery, trial preparation, mediation, and settlement negotiations.
Provides legal advice to the Division of Student Affairs on a variety of issues related to student discipline, crisis response, academics, financial matters, residency, contracts, international programs, Title IX, the Americans with Disabilities Act, free speech, and religious accommodations.
Supervises the Universitys processes for subpoena responses and document production and advises institutional clients on compliance with Floridas public records laws and Federal privacy laws.
Serves as a liaison to the University Police Department, the Office of Civil Rights and Title IX, Public Affairs, and the Universitys Risk Manager.
Appears and attends at court and mediation as necessary.
Performs other job-related duties as required or deemed appropriate.

Minimum Qualifications:
Juris doctor degree from an accredited institution and two (2) years of appropriate experience required.Preferred Qualifications/Skills:
Five (5) years of appropriate experience.
Member of the Florida Bar in good standing.
Salary:
