Job Description:

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join our team as Managing Director, General Counsel. Reporting to the Chief Legal Officer, the General Counsel will be responsible for overseeing the delivery of internal legal services, managing external counsel relationships, and ensuring adherence with contractual, legal and regulatory compliance standards. The successful candidate will demonstrate attention to detail, proactive risk mitigation strategies, and a proven ability to lead and manage a successful team.

Key Responsibilities:

Oversee the delivery of internal legal services across all departments, ensuring timely and accurate legal advice and support.

Provide strategic guidance and counsel to senior management on legal and regulatory matters.

Manage relationships with external counsel, including selection, engagement, and performance evaluation.

Ensure compliance with all relevant contractual, legal and regulatory requirements, including but not limited to securities laws, investment regulations, employment laws and regulations, and contractual obligations.

Strike a balance between managing risk while also helping the business move forward.

Develop and implement proactive risk mitigation strategies to protect the interests of Cresset and its clients.

Lead and mentor a team of legal professionals, fostering a culture of excellence, innovation, and collaboration.

Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance legal processes and procedures, with a focus on efficiency, effectiveness, process improvement and knowledge capture.

Negotiate and draft contracts, agreements, and other legal documents as needed, with an eye for detail and accuracy.

Monitor legal and regulatory developments relevant to the industry, assessing potential impacts and recommending appropriate actions.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Good standing membership of a state bar.

Minimum of twenty years of experience practicing law, preferably with a focus on securities, M&A, and/or general corporate.

Strong understanding of legal and regulatory compliance requirements within the fund manager, investment advisory and/or wealth management industry.

Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, with a strong sense of urgency and attention to detail.

Proven track record of effectively managing and leading a team of legal professionals.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact confidently with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.

Strategic thinker with a results-driven mindset and a commitment to delivering high-quality outcomes.
