Senior Director of Business & Legal Affairs

Job Description

Blumhouse is looking for a Senior Director of Business & Legal Affairs to join its TV studio. The Senior Director will handle all aspects of day-to-day scripted and unscripted television business & legal affairs from development to production and delivery, and focus primarily on production legal

Responsibilities

• Managing legal matters during the course of development and production and assisting in the development of forms and policies.
• Structuring, negotiating, and drafting a variety of development and production agreements, including literary acquisition, writer agreements, talent agreements, producer agreements, director agreements, assignment agreements, license / co-production agreements, rights agreements, and other development and production-related agreements (e.g., below-the-line agreements).
• Vetting cuts, and other materials for potential copyright, trademark and defamation issues.
• Providing legal advice on potential risks and issues in a wide range of legal areas, including intellectual property, labor and employment, immigration, public policy, safety, corporate structure and tax
• Evaluating underlying rights and chain-of-title issues.
• Supporting VP and Head of Business & Legal Affairs, as needed.
• Maintains awareness and understanding of the latest developments in the law and technology as they relate to the distribution of content across all digital platforms.

Requirements

• 5-7 years prior experience working in the entertainment industry as a lawyer in connection with the development and production of filmed entertainment content (in-house as part of a television network and/or studio a plus).
• JD degree and admission to the California State Bar.
• Strong negotiation and writing skills mandatory.
• Ability to foster a cooperative work environment; demonstrate ability to work in partnership with the company’s business areas, including creative, production, and marketing.
• Must be highly detail oriented.
• Must have a cooperative, positive, team-oriented approach.
• Strong analytical capabilities and judgment.
• Ability to work proactively, independently and reliably under tight timeframes in a fast-paced environment.
