Sun River Health is a Federally Qualified, Non-Profit Health Center serving communities in Suffolk, Rockland, Orange, Dutchess, Ulster, Sullivan, Columbia, Westchester Counties and New York City. The Preservation Company, a non-profit 501 (c)(3) organization founded by Sun River Health in 1987 to help address the housing crisis in Westchester County is looking to fill a part-time Counsel position based in Peekskill, NY.

Counsel for The Preservation Company (TPC) will be responsible for leveraging skills and experience to take a leadership role within the housing company to create affordable housing focused on Sun River Healths special populations.

Job Competencies and Responsibilities

  • Developing and overseeing grant funding opportunities.
  • Identifying and developing affordable and supportive housing projects.
  • Identifying opportunities to create community health centers in low-income housing tax credit (LIHTC) development projects.
  • Conducting zoning and project feasibility analysis.
  • Securing acquisition, predevelopment, construction and permanent financing for small affordable housing development projects.
  • Coordinating various internal and external stakeholder groups.
  • Assisting in the negotiation of major agreements and financing documents, including limited partnership agreements, loan documents, construction contracts, architectural agreements, and property management agreements.
  • Assisting in drafting TPCs annual review and strategic plan:
  • Briefing changes in:

o Affordable and supportive housing legislation and programs.

o Land use and environmental legislation.

  • Exploring and identifying partnerships to provide services to high need individuals under the 1115 Waiver.
  • Coordinate and advise ED and Board of Directors on Corporate Affairs, Policy, and Personnel.

Qualifications:

Admitted to NY bar, practicing 5+ years
Relevant practice experience includes:
o Land use, real estate, construction, financing

o Serving indigent populations in need of housing and/or support services

o Experience or familiarity with federal and state local funding and subsidy programs for affordable and supportive housing

o Experience or familiarity with federal and state legislation related to affordable and supportive housing, land use, and environmental law

o Experience or familiarity dealing with municipalities, planning commissions, and municipal councils

o Excellent written and communication skills

o Ability to conduct a zoning analysis

o Proficiency in Excel and drafting real estate proforma

Salary: $85,200.00 per year
