Position Summary

Huron Consulting Group is seeking an experienced attorney with extensive experience in employment law, both in counselling and disputes, as well as general commercial litigation.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Primary attorney supporting the Human Resources function. Provide advice, counsel and assistance on a daily basis on all global employment matters including hiring, termination and severance issues, discrimination and harassment claims, employment agreements, wage and hour laws, leave laws, employment agreements, employee disputes, employee handbooks and policies, and training materials.
  • Advise on employee benefit programs, compensation, incentive plans, and commission agreements.
  • Strong knowledge of law surrounding restrictive covenants and applying that knowledge to review of prospective hires and to handling termination of employees.
  • Assist with internal investigations into complaints of misconduct, discrimination, harassment, and other workplace issues. Advise on appropriate resolution strategies and lead response to any employment-related claims or charges.
  • Advise on employment-related aspects of business transactions, including acquisitions, supply chain, and outsourcing engagements.
  • Handle employment law compliance across global businesses, identify potential legal risks in employment practices and support the development strategies to ensure compliance and mitigate risks.
  • Work collaboratively with HR and internal enterprise functions to define and help implement required policies and processes, including participating in the regular review and update of company handbooks, policies and procedures in accordance with local, national, and international law.
  • Work with CVP-Head of Legal Affairs to manage outside counsel and handle corporate litigation and disputes.
  • Handle third party subpoenas and formal record requests.
  • Manage Records Retention Program.
  • Foster collaborative working relationships with HR business partners and others in the HR department, managing directors, internal business clients and executives, company clients and the various corporate departments.
  • Provide superb attention to detail and the ability to provide timely legal support in a fast-paced environment.
  • Maintain a high level of professionalism and outstanding business judgment with minimal supervision.

Desired Experience:

  • The Assistant General Counsel candidate being sought will have a minimum of seven to ten (7-10) years of experience. Previous experience in employment law or litigation within a law firm is required. Experience working in a similar role in a corporate function is considered a plus. Knowledge of U.S. employment law is required; experience with international employment/labor law is considered a plus.

  • Be highly motivated, strategic, detail-oriented with the ability to pro-actively organize a heavy workload and demonstrate excellent analytical abilities.
  • Experience understanding and interpreting requirements of multi-jurisdictional organizations.
  • Capacity to make timely and informed decisions under time constrained and/or high-pressure situations.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with the CVP-Head of Legal Affairs, the rest of the Legal Department and internal clients.
  • Ability to work quickly and independently, with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to relate comfortably at all levels.
  • Admitted to the Bar.
  • Undergraduate and law degree required.
  • Strong familiarity with employment law required; global employment law experience preferred.
  • Litigation experience required.
  • Digital fluency across multiple platforms, including Microsoft, etc.

The estimated base salary range for this job is $150,000 - $215,000. The range represents a good faith estimate of the range that Huron reasonably expects to pay for this job at the time of the job posting. The actual salary paid to an individual will vary based on multiple factors, including but not limited to specific skills or certifications, years of experience, market changes, and required travel. This job is also eligible to participate in Hurons annual incentive compensation program, which reflects Hurons pay for performance philosophy. Inclusive of annual incentive compensation opportunity, the total estimated compensation range for this job is $187,500 - $290,000. The job is also eligible to participate in Hurons benefit plans which include medical, dental and vision coverage and other wellness programs. The salary range information provided is in accordance with applicable state and local laws regarding salary transparency that are currently in effect and may be implemented in the future.
