Senior Associate Athletic Director for Legal & Regulatory Affairs
The Senior Associate Athletic Director for Legal & Regulatory Affairs shall have extensive knowledge of NCAA rules, be able to promote a culture of integrity and compliance and ensure that the University of Virginia is maintaining institutional control with regard to NCAA, ACC, and institutional rules and regulations.
The Senior Associate Athletic Director for Legal & Regulatory Affairs must have an understanding of legal concepts, including but not limited to, intellectual property, licensing, contract construction, collective bargaining, labor and employment issues, privacy, tax exempt status, and other higher education related issues. The individual must be aware of the manner in which these concepts may impact intercollegiate athletics, as the legal and regulatory landscape changes.
The Senior Associate Athletic Director for Legal & Regulatory Affairs must be knowledgeable about the current landscape of NIL. The individual should have experience working with collectives, companies, corporate sponsors, multimedia rights partners, and/or other entities that are involved in the landscape of NIL or similar concepts.
The Senior Associate Athletic Director for Legal & Regulatory Affairs should have a strong grasp of issues related to NIL representation, agents, and other forms of representation. The individual must be aware of various state laws regarding representation and have experience working with agents, agencies, money managers, or other entities that engage in representation.
The Senior Associate Athletic Director for Legal & Regulatory Affairs shall routinely analyze situations, provide interpretations, identify recommendations, initiate action, and provide guidance on all matters pertaining to their duties. This individual should be knowledgeable about complex legal and regulatory issues that impact the University of Virginias operations, have a solid grasp of strategic priorities relating to intercollegiate athletics, and be able to operate with considerable autonomy.
Job Duties (not exhaustive):
Lead and manage the Athletics Compliance Office.
Manage initiatives that promote a culture of integrity and compliance.
Ensure internal and external NIL initiatives and activities, as well as related matters, are compliant with relevant state laws, institutional policies, and other rules, regulations and laws.
Liaison between the University of Virginia and student-athletes, business, agents/agencies, collectives, other NIL-related entities, as well as other related matters.
Understand and have a working knowledge of general human resource concepts, such as contract preparation and review.
Serve as a professional resource to lead and manage in an ever-changing legal and regulatory environment.
Represent the athletic department on committees as deemed appropriate.
Other duties as assigned.

Ability and desire to perform accurate, detail-oriented work, manage multiple tasks simultaneously, and maintain confidentiality and a professional demeanor.
Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and sound judgments.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Minimum Requirements
Education: Bachelor's degree
Experience: At least eight years of relevant experience.
Preferred Requirements
Education: Juris Doctor or LLM
Physical Demands
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
