Job Summary

The Assistant General Counsel, Employment Law is responsible for serving as a subject matter expert in Legal on employment related matters including providing advice and counsel to human resources, managing and/or supporting employment-related investigations, managing litigated and non-litigated employment disputes and further providing other support within the Legal department as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the VP, Employment Law to manage legal needs and requests for advice from human resources.
  • Work directly with Human Resources, business colleagues and leaders both in corporate and in the field and store teams to provide advice, counsel and legal support related to employment and human resources matters.
  • Manage and/or support internal investigations related to employment and human resources issues.
  • Provide support as needed to contracting team related to employment, staffing, consulting and related contracting.
  • Manage non-litigated employment disputes with or without outside counsel.
  • Manage litigation employment disputes and direct strategy with outside counsel.
  • Assist in development and amendment of human resources related policies and procedures as needed.
  • Provide support and advice as assigned on labor matters.
  • Identify opportunities for business improvement and support or lead initiatives to implement such improvements.
EXPERIENCE, SKILL and ABILITY REQUIREMENTS
  • 7 years of experience in Must maintain an active license to practice law in good standing in at least one state required.
  • 7 years of experience in An attorney in a law firm or in-house role working on employment matters required.
  • 7 years of experience in Exhibits strong leadership skills, outstanding interpersonal skills, a collaborative style, and experience successfully working across departmental lines to implement new policies, procedures and programs required.
  • 7 years of experience in Ability to exercise considerable judgment, maintain confidentiality, and act in a diplomatic manner required.
  • 7 years of experience in Ability to independently identify, research and resolve issues required.
  • 7 years of experience in Superior interpersonal and presentation skills, with ability to communicate (both in writing and verbally) with internal and external clients at all levels required.
  • Self-directed and able to work with minimal supervision required.
  • Ability to work extended hours, weekends, and holidays pursuant with industry demands required.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally required.

Qualifications

The typical starting pay range for this position is between [$136k-$195k], although wages can vary based on experience and geography.
