POSITION SUMMARY
This position is a staff attorney providing support to the General Counsel, Senior Litigation Counsel, the organization and its affiliates on the legal aspects of professional and business matters. Corporate Counsel - Litigation is responsible for providing legal advice and counsel to support internal clients and serve as lead attorney in certain substantive legal areas, as assigned.
Corporate Counsel – Litigation (CCL) is responsible for researching and advising on all areas of the law, including but not limited to, professional liability, general liability, informed consent, employment, medical staff matters, civil and criminal procedure and regulatory compliance. The CCL is responsible for supporting Senior Litigation Counsel in handling assigned litigation matters, including entering an appearance and defending AtlantiCare interests in litigation and/or overseeing outside counsel litigation services.
This position supports organizational goals by providing quality customer service, participating in performance improvement efforts and demonstrating a commitment to teamwork and cooperation. The AGC operates under the practices and policies of the organization and ensures its ethical standards are applied in all legal matters.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION: Juris Doctor
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: Licensed member of the Bar of the State of New Jersey
EXPERIENCE: Minimum 15 years’ experience in performing legal work including litigation experience in general liability and professional liability matters, within a hospital, physician practice or law firm servicing hospital and/or physician clients required. Knowledge of health care law and health care regulations preferred.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Potential for exposure to the hazards and risk of the hospital environment, including exposure to infectious disease, hazardous substances, and potential injury. This position requires sitting a majority of the day, with frequent standing and walking.
