Legal Counsel
Artisan Partners Limited Partnership has an opening for Counsel on our Legal team. Due to the growth of our business, this new position is being created to provide legal advice and support primarily for investment matters, including private and public funds, investment advisory clients, global investments, regulatory filings, corporate governance and distribution. Artisans robust in-house team works closely with our business to solve unique and sophisticated business matters. With a focus on investment advisory work, this role will also have the opportunity to gain broader exposure to other business areas such as public company legal work, intellectual property, employment law and corporate contracting.
The Legal Counsel will have an opportunity for broad exposure across the organization in a collaborative and supportive environment, with a commitment to associate development.
Location: Milwaukee, WI
Responsibilities
The candidate can expect to:
- Perform legal work relating to Artisans business as a global investment adviser, including structuring of private and public funds in the US, Ireland and Cayman Islands; negotiation of client agreements; preparation of disclosure and regulatory documents; handling governance matters relating to Artisans funds; and providing legal advice to Artisans marketing, communications and distribution teams
- Advise Artisans investment and operational teams on legal matters relating to global equity and fixed income investing
- Collaborate with Artisans Investment, Compliance, Operations, Finance, Tax and Human Capital teams to provide legal analysis and advice in connection with new business initiatives, ongoing development of policies and procedures and resolution of issues
- Perform legal work relating to Artisans corporate and partnership structure, including public company governance, regulatory and disclosure matters, as well as employment law, intellectual property and corporate contracting
- Perform related duties as assigned
Qualifications
The successful candidate will possess strong analytical skills and attention to detail. Additionally, the ideal candidate will possess:
- J.D. from an accredited law school and admitted to practice law in at least one state
- Minimum of two years of legal experience practicing law with a top-tier law firm that specializes in corporate and securities law and/or relevant in-house experience at an investment adviser or similar financial business
- Experience in securities laws, with knowledge and practice in some or all of the Investment Company Act, Investment Advisers Act, 1933 Act, or 1934 Act
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Must be highly detail oriented and well organized with the ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines
- Strong sense of ownership of tasks and responsibilities
- Ability and desire to work in multiple legal areas and with a broad set of business partners
- PC skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
