Department Overview

W&D Affordable Equity (formerly Alliant Capital) is a leading tax credit firm focused on tax credit syndication for the development and financing of affordable multifamily rental housing. As a syndicator of Low-Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC), W&D Affordable Equity raises corporate equity and monitors the development, construction, lease-up, and permanent financing phases of its investments. With a dedicated team of experienced real estate, asset management, legal, and tax professionals, we provide the highest level of fully integrated real estate and investment support services.

The Impact You Will Have

W&D Affordable Equity is looking to add a real estate transactional attorney to its exceptional in-house legal team. We are looking for a candidate with 4-6 years of substantive experience who can assist with legal matters relating to the business deals and matters of Walker & Dunlops Affordable Equity and Affordable Preservation businesses, including acquisition, disposition, and financing of interest in real property, corporate and investment fund related matters. The successful candidate will work in a highly collaborative environment, providing effective counsel, while also contributing toward the development of affordable housing. Experience with affordable housing is preferred, particularly projects financed with tax exempt bonds and/or Low-Income Housing Tax Credits.

Education and Experience

  • Real estate transactional training at a major US law firm.

  • At least 4 years of experience as a real estate transactional attorney.

  • A Bachelors and Jurors Doctorate degree from a top tier law school is required.

  • Excellent transactional research and writing skills and attention to detail.

  • Ability to identify risks and propose alternative structures to mitigate risks.

  • Ability to handle multiple projects.

  • Excellent public presentation, strong communication skills to all levels of management and ability to work successfully in a critical team environment.

  • Knowledge and a working familiarity with Section 42 Low Income Housing Tax Credits, tax-exempt bonds, lending practices, title and survey review, and other real estate finance matters is preferred.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills - the individual speaks clearly and persuasively in all situations, demonstrates group presentation skills and conducts meetings including excellent spelling, grammar, and proofreading abilities.

  • Ability to think critically and be creative with problem-solving - the individual identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner and gathers and analyzes information strategically.

  • Must possess exceptional interpersonal skills and must be able to interact and communicate with individuals at all levels of the organization and handle sensitive and confidential situations independently or on a team.

  • Strong analytical skills

  • Attention to detail, accuracy, and thoroughness.

  • Highly motivated, self-starter who is dependable, detail-oriented, and capable of working in a productive independent fashion, and function well in a team environment.

  • Strong work ethic (professionalism), initiative and pro-activeness and ability to work with minimal guidance and supervision.

  • Good judgment. The individual displays willingness to make decisions, exhibits sound and accurate judgment and makes timely decisions.

  • Planning/organizing. The individual prioritizes and plans work activities, uses time efficiently and develops realistic action plans.

  • Professional, upbeat, energetic, takes initiative, dependable, takes pride in work

Base salary will be between $160,000 $175,000 plus a discretionary bonus component.
