TITLE: PUBLIC INTEREST ENVIRONMENTAL ATTORNEY - CLEAN AIR & WATER

REPORTS TO: MANAGING ATTORNEY

LOCATION: Cleveland orColumbus, OH.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Public Interest Environmental Attorney position combines litigation with legal advocacy in support of ELPCs mission to drive transformational policy changes with regional and national impacts. This is a great opportunity for a leadership rolein the Ohio and Midwest regional environmental community. The incumbent will be a critical part of ELPCs public interest entrepreneurial and multidisciplinary team culture and help support fundraising for ELPCs program activities and expand program success.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Key litigation role advancing ELPCs innovative and successful environmental program activities,
  • Strong focus on clean energy issues before the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio as well as clean water issues before the federal courts
  • Play leadership role in the local and state environmental community by identifying key allies and fostering support for ELPCs initiatives
  • Participate in fundraising calls in support of ELPCs program activities and to expand program areas and access.
  • Work as an integral part of ELPCs public interest, entrepreneurial and multidisciplinary team.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Juris Doctor degree
  • Minimum 3-5years experience in public interest litigation and advocacy, additional experience a plus.
  • Candidates with DOJ or State Attorney Generals office are encouraged to apply
  • Candidates with a law firm background of hands-on trial and appellate litigation experience and a keen interest in legal advocacy as evidenced through volunteer work may also be considered.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Team player who works effectively with ELPCs multidisciplinary project teams including attorneys, policy advocates, scientists, communications specialists, and organizers.
  • Track record of winning public interest litigation and a desire to continuously learn and improve
  • An inspired and demonstrated commitment to public interest advocacy
  • Sound understanding and interest in multifaceted public policy strategic advocacy that involves media, legislative, economic and policy analysis and organizing approaches coordinated with strong and effective legal advocacy
  • Ability to operate independently as well as part of a geographically dispersed team, work on varying assignments as needed and manage multiple priorities with defined deadlines.

ESTIMATED TRAVEL: 10-15% domestic travel, mostly within the Midwest region.

SALARY: $93,000 to $105,700. Salary will be commensurate with experience for candidates with more than 5 years relevant experience.
