Job Summary:
The Immigration & Deportation Defense Clinic at the University of San Francisco seeks an associate attorney who has experience in immigration law and deportation defense. The attorney will work primarily on cases involving asylum and special immigrant juvenile status for children and families throughout Northern and Central California who are in removal proceedings in the San Francisco Immigration Court. The attorney may also work on BIA and Ninth Circuit appeals.

Job Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Clinics Director, handle a caseload of at least 30-40 active removal defense cases;
Attend immigration court hearings, family and probate hearings and asylum interviews as needed;
Participate in staff meetings;
Assist with periodic trainings and know your rights presentations;
Serve as a representative of the Clinic with local coalitions, including the SFILDC, which entails attending monthly meetings, assisting with Rapid Response and the Attorney of the Day Program.
Job Requirements
Understanding and commitment to USFs mission, vision, and values;
Member of the California State Bar;
Fluency in Spanish required;
One to three years of experience working in immigration removal defense, with an emphasis on both asylum and Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (law school clinic work counts towards years of experience);
Excellent verbal, interpersonal, and writing skills;
Experience working with children, preferably immigrant and refugee children, and survivors of abuse, human trafficking, or other trauma;
A strong record of cultural competence and cross-cultural communication skills;
Ability to work efficiently and effectively under pressure and in crisis situations;
Ability to work collaboratively with attorneys, paralegals and social services providers;
Be willing to travel out of the Bay Area no more than once a week;
Prior experience working with community-based organizations;
Experience with or the ability to work with a diverse student body, faculty and staff. Strong equity lens, cultural humility and proven ability to work well in a diverse context.
